woof... I'm on my lunch break, I just gobbled down some pizza & washed it down with some iced tea. I have 1 hour to chill before I have to run off to publix.
yes, it happens all the time. in the case of the pizzas, I'm pretty sure the pizza guys think that some homeless person/people will find the pizzas. this time, though, i-- not homeless-- found them. the street people get the vast majority of stuff left out. I get occasional scores. I see stuff all the time, but I pass up most of it. it depends on what it is. I'm not into having lots of stuff. I went minimalist a long time ago.
while that is true, the chances that a backpack left out here in kw is packed with explosives or 'anthrax' or whatever is practically zero. I passed up that pack the first night. on the next night I could see the pack had been rummaged through, so I investigated. it never occurred to me that it could be a dangerous thing to do. no fear.
no fear. what kind of a street pirate would I be if I shy away from what could be a decent ground-score? I am hardened by more-than-occasional police interruption. besides, if al qaeda or isis or any other clown happens to show up to cause trouble or chaos, I make a simple phone call:
"avast, ye scurvy dogs! I dunno who ye be or why ye've come t' me island. If ye be lookin' fer ransom, or infamy, or loot, I can tell ye I don't 'ave anythin' fer ye... but wha' I do 'ave be a mighty particular set o' skills. Skills I 'ave acquired o'er a mighty long career o' street piracy. Skills dat make me a nightmare fer biscuit-eatin' landlubbers like ye. If ye dogs leave me island now, dat'll be th' end o' it. I will nah look fer ye, I will nah pursue ye... but if ye don't, I will scour land n' sea fer ye, I will find ye 'n I will pillage ye, plunder ye', capture ye and at the end o' me cutlass force ye t' walk the plank n' send ye down to Davey Jones' locker! time t' feed th' fish! ahhrrr! ye'll rue th' day ye crossed ill paths with Silverbeard!"

you may be right, D. I was thinking that, too. I won't go into why. a subject for another space & time.
yes. north and then west. the rockies are bigger than the appalachians. the highest ground is west. I could do a pitstop in the east, but ultimately i'd want to go west. again, a subject for another space & time.
