Quote: My guess is 1966 1 dirham from Qatar & Dubai Keith12 has come through and chosen the correct answer! We are all very happy for him and we know he deserves it! If anyone has any more info on what happened historically to the proposed union of the two governments, please share it here. All I know is one king was the other kings son in law. They went through a lot of trouble to mint coins and not even have a country that they belong to. I'm also interested in finding out where they were minted, though I suspect England.

Quote: I regret to inform you that is incorrect. Alas, woe is me. Quote: The Trucial States Council was a forum for the leaders of the emirates to meet, presided over by the British Political Agent. Quote: Qatar joined talks with Bahrain and seven other Trucial States to create a federation. Regional disputes, however, persuaded Qatar and Bahrain to withdraw from the talks and become independent states separate from the Trucial States, which went on to become the United Arab Emirates.
The pirate coast, became the Trucial States under Britian, but I don't know where the coin was minted. Congrats Keith
