Back from exile on an island in Lake Erie for the last two days. Maybe a colonial issue, since we know the date is earlier than 1790. Wood's Hibernia coins, Virginia issues, many others were struck in England. French Colonies coins from 18thc. are also in the RedBook and would have been struck in France. Probably there are more that fit the date range and th otehr criteria, but this is a start.

Was this coin minted on an island nation in the "Old World" and used in the English-speaking American colonies (as opposed to French or Spanish colonies)?
