Considering Joe's answers to the questions I am leaning toward Hawaii or Cuba.
Is this island in the Pacific Ocean?

I found Jamaica but nothing more. The French and Dutch islands are no go because the mints are in the eastern hemisphere. Also, EVERY SINGLE OPTION I CAN IMAGINE WAS MINTED IN A DIFFERENT COUNTRY. Newfoundland, PEI, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Cuba and Jamaica all fit this. Only Haiti is eliminated. I suggest we wait for answers to the two outstanding questions (tree on coin, and Pacific). All right, I'm down for the night. Big day tomorrow, going t the Ohio State Coin Show in beautiful Dublin, Ohio. (Home of Wendy's Hamburgers).

OK, team. We have 5 denominations from which to choose, and about 15 dates for each denomination; everybody can find a catalog to see what we're up against. Ain't gonna be easy, but with 9 questions left, and then our final guesses, I think we can do it. The 1 cent coin is most common. Maybe we start there. If we strike out, then maybe we work on date since many of the silver coins pre-1890 are low mintage  @loonie, you've probably got a much better fix on how to proceed ... Edited by tdziemia

I'm in to beat the Master..........again. I have some some reference books right here. Yes Coach, lots of coins left, but we've had harder times.
We can get into mintage #'s, composition is silver except for the cent and 2 dollar coin. Maybe narrow down the year some more first? He may pull another gold one on us though. Mint marks may have a bearing,
