The Canberra Florin of which we have 2 examples already was issued on May 9th 1927 to celebrate the opening of the new Parliament house in Canberra, Australia.   The coin had a close up of King George of the Bertram MacKennal effigy from 1911, however the obverse showing building framed with a date and met by crossed maces, was a Kruger Grey Design and one of his most elaborate ones. 1927 was a good year for him, with his designs being rolled out on the British silver and the copper coins of Jersey. 2 million florins were issued and unlike other Australian coins of the era, most of these were souvenired and survive in at least VF condition. Coins in various grades of MS are very expensive and MS65 are at a crazy price of like $30k! Coins to EF are fairly cheap ($10 - $25). This toned AU coin cost me $30, but is worth around $75. The washed out photo does not do it justice, the reverse has nice purply, pinkish and off gold tones. Canberra was established in 1913 and the Parliament House was replaced in 1988 by the current one. A stamp was also issued. Edited by Princetane

1927 was also the year Kruger Grey's British coin designs came out, but 1927 dated halfcrowns with them are rare. Much more common are 1927 halfcrowns with the previous De Saulles reverse.  Another gVF example - but like the 1930 coin - this coin is still in transit. The effigy on this 1927 Halfcrown is the modified smaller portrait though and this is a TYPE 3 of the George V Half crowns. Type 3 was only issued in 1926 (Scarce) and 1927 (Common). Because I haven't received yet, I am not sure if this was cleaned or not - but it was cheap and it filled a gap. |

1927 is also a good year for my US coins. Here is a penny and another Buffalo nickel  A 1927D penny in F/VF condition and a Fine 1927S nickel. Hardly earth shattering but to me interesting pieces at least and a foretaste of some of my 1916/17 pieces. |

1927 British halfpenny with lots of original lustre:  1927 proof florin. This denomination was not issued for general circulation in 1927:  1927 impaired proof halfcrown, must have escaped into circulation. Circulating halfcrowns were of the earlier type, as shown by Paralyse:  1927 crown:  The 1927 is the most common of the Wreath Crowns, with a mintage of 15,030, of which 15,000 were issued in Proof Sets with the other new silver coins. It's not known what happened to the other 30 crowns: maybe they were presented to VIPs and Royal Mint officials, as it was the first crown issued for 25 years and the first 50% silver crown. |

Love the coins NumisRobs - getting a 1927 Kruger Grey of any of these denoms is a goal for me, but the Canberra Florin will suffice in the meantime. The coins you show are all stunners and I really love the Crown - makes my Half crown pale. Anyway to complete the family of British coins - here is a gVF near EF farthing for good measure.   Not as hot as my 28, but a neat and clean coin nevertheless. It lacks lustre but has surprising amount of details, there are features on this coin I can not see on some lustrous ones. Arkie - love the German 3 Reichmarks!  Princetane - another great farthing! Here's another Palestinian coin - 1927 2 mils. The British mandate of Palestine issued its first coins in 1927. This one was brought back by my father who served there in World War II:  In 1927 Spain was gradually dissolving into the anarchy that would culminate in the Civil War, but they found time to issue a new style of holed 25 centimos...  ... and of course the cupro-nickel Swiss 10 rappen carried on exactly as it had done every year since 1879 and still does today:  |
