1923 is probably my most sorry year so far! Just 2 and possibly 3 coins if I win an auction closing in 3 hours. It's back to Belgium for my 1st piece, another holey 25 centimes coin in the French language.   What I find interesting is how crudely stamped the date was. The 2 looks very uneven and its obvious it was a date slug being changed each year. I can't blame them, in 1923 Belgium was still reeling from the carnage of WW1. |

Second coin is a decent Halfpenny - for some unknown and potentially stupid reason, I did not bother with an Obverse shot. But I am sure you have all seen that blurry effigy of KGV for the umpteenth time. So hopefully the mods will let it slide.  If it helps, the years 1915 - 1919 are loaded with heaps of coins off me too, and some are not just low value ones - lots of nice silver pieces including a lot of nice halfcrowns and dimes. Love all the German notgeld and inflation coins you guys are showing too  |

A well-worn sixpence and a nice AU half crown from 1923 1923 is a tougher low mintage date for the 6d hence the less-than-admirable state of preservation! Fortunately the pretty half crown adds something from the other end of the eye appeal spectrum. I haven't seen many Japanese coins posted yet, so here is a decent circulated silver 50 Sen from 1923 (Taisho year 12.) The reverse picture is 180 degrees out (upside-down.)   On the subject of Notgeld, this lustrous aluminum 1923-J 200,000 Mark coin is from Hamburg. A very common and inexpensive coin but with an attractive design that belies the cost. In August 1923, 200000 (Papier)Mark were worth approximately 20 cents; five would suffice for a dollar. Not very much purchasing power, but manageable. Three months later, right before the equally disastrous introduction of the Rentenmark, you would have needed 21 million (!) of those 200,000 Mark coins to make that same dollar.
