Great coins everyone, love the Melbourne sovereign!
And that Yuan Shi kai dollar (He was the warlord who tried to restart a Chinese empire in 1915)

1914 is a sparse year for me - just 3 posts and here is the first an ubiquitous Half Crown. 1914 saw a respectable number issued after the first 3 years of George V's reign saw generally low numbers of them issued.

This example is quite worn and probably a bit below average (Between VG and Fine).

One of my more bizarre coins of this era are these

It is 2 x 1 Qirsh and 1 x 2 Qirsh Coins of Egypt. These are Ottoman coins, although Egypt was nominally autonomous and actually partially controlled by England and France at the time, coins up to 1915 had the Turkish sultan's Toughra (Signature on back) and the date is even weirder.

These have the date AH 1327 (In Islamic numerals) on the Reverse and on the back is the Regnal year which is 6 - So this gives a date of AH 1333, however you minus a year as its the 6th year of the reign of Sultan Mehmed V (Reshad) 1909 - 1918.

So year 1 is AH 1327 and year 6 is AH 1332, which started on Nov 30 1913 running through to Nov 21 1914 giving these coins a 89% chance they were minted in 1914!

The coins are cupronickel and the lowest values in the set, they make 1/1000 of a Lira and the 1 Qirsh is 1/10 of a Piastre. I will be showing more Egyptian and Turkish coins over the coming days.

The H suggests these were minted in Heaton (Birmingham?), even if the Arabic inscriptions contradict this.

The Arabic inscription includes "May he be Victorious, struck in Egypt"
