Dorado - lovely set of coins, especially the Fijian shilling!   1934 was a bumper year for New Zealand coins with the highest mintages of all denominations through to the 1960s in many cases. 2.7 million Halfcrowns, 2.85 million florins, 3.4 million shillings, 3.6 million sixpences and 6 million Threepences, may not sound like much to say Britain and America, but in 1934 New Zealand had 1.4 million people and was stuck in the Depression - that is a lot of coins! It is an easy year to get nice coins for and that is why of the 5 coins, 3 I have are VF/EF - here we have a near EF Halfcrown, a good VF Florin and a EF 3d. Lovely coins and when I get more well off could upgrade to UNC easily. |

Also issued were the 6d and 1/-   These are only "Average Circulated" pieces, but mainly due to my lack of interest and activity at this point to upgrade them rather than cost or availability of better examples. Yet given the common ness of this year, these are both pretty much grading "Fine" by themselves rather than Good - Very Good. the 6d even has some brightness on it. The shilling is not a cleaned one as this was slightly better than the cleaned coin, which is in my junk NZ silver bag. Interestingly most of the 1933 dated coins arrived in New Zealand in the Feb - Jun 1934 period and only the Halfcrowns had arrived in November 1933. Enjoy these coins, as my 1933 coins are all "Average" and then there's no more New Zealand except tokens in the 1800s. Edited by Princetane

Paralyse, I would grade your 1935 UK Halfcrown at aFine to Fine on the British scale. A lot of wear and some flattening of shield edges, but believe me they get much worse than that (I will show you all my most worn one in 1924 and 1928) and some nicer ones in 1929. 31 and 32). On the American scale that would equate to about F15 - It's a bare fine and some real hard graders like sel-69 would probably say the high very goods. The coin has been cleaned, as it has an unnatural blitzed white colour on it, but probably at least 10 - 20 years ago. Sadly a lot of British silver coins in the conditions VG to EF suffer from bleaching style cleaning. Now all YOU American posters - Brace YOURSELVES PRESENTING MY HALF DOLLAR!   1934S Walking Liberty half dollar - I would say its high Very Goods to Bare Fine condition. |

A Beautiful South African penny from 1934   South Africa stuck with the Bertram McKennal portrait of his Majesty. The first Union issues like these came out in 1923, but the Afrikaner Republiks started issuing Gold coins (Ponds) in 1874 and a silver and copper coinage in 1892. |
