I don't have anything this old to share, but just wanted to say that this is a really cool thread - lots of eye candy!

Quiet year for me. Here is my own 'Godless' 1849 Florin Here is an 1849 medalet commemorating Victoria & Albert's first visit to Ireland in August of that year.

Hungary - 1848 KB 20 Krajczar (Revolutionary Issue) I collect coins with the Holy Roman Empire iconography of the Madonna and child, so this one is among my favorites. There are two varieties -- the Hungarian language version as seen here is the variety struck after the Revolution started in March 1848. Pre-revolutionary versions used the Latin legends and titles (cf. KM422, e.g.) KB mint = Körmöcbánya, formerly Kremnitz, now Kremnica An interesting fact about these coins is that some were split and hollowed out, with one half being slightly enlarged and finely threaded, such that the other half could be screwed in to it and the whole coin then used to hide things inside such as notes and messages; sort of like the later "opium box" Trade dollars, but less obvious. I really need to update these photos as the coin has much bolder rainbow reverse toning and much more luster than are seen here in these 5 year old shots. These photos also make it look brownish, when in reality it is not. (The marks are test marks/adjustment marks, not damage.) 1848 - France - Medalet of Napoleon III Commemorates his return to power as President of France in December 1848. He was born 40 years and 8 months prior on 20 April 1808, so this is technically an "error medal" since it misstates his date of birth as 25 April 1808!
