Quote: But I read various publications and still do not understand what the word "island" has to do with it. Was there some island or not initially? Hatfield Island, in the Guyandotte river, sits near the mouth of Island Creek. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islan...st_Virginia)Quote: Please explain is this island in West Virginia or Ohio? Considering that Marietta, OH is 16 miles up river, I am going to guess the island belongs to WV, at least that is what the map says.

Thanks for your comments! We continue playing just alphabetically for now. It remains to find something in the remaining two states. These are Wisconsin and Wyoming. I like that Wisconsin has a lot of islands and interesting tokens (unlike Wyoming where I only found one island). Here are a couple of examples from Wisconsin: Schuebel's island (Shoto, Wisconsin), token 10¢ Gerald H. Schuebel was owner of Schuebel's Island Tavern in Shoto (Two Rivers, WI) from 1969 to 1973. There is no island in or around Shoto. https://www.findagrave.com/memorial...ald-schuebel and another one, now a real island: Fox Island (Fox Isle Resort, Wisconsin) token 5¢ This is obviously a deposit token: you pay 5 cents for the bottle and get it back when you return the bottle. To prevent people from bringing in bottles bought elsewhere, they need to show proof of purchase in the form of this token. If you want to find Fox Island on the Wisconsin map, don't get confused because there are two different ones - one island is on the river and the other is on the lake)

And now the very last state in the alphabet is Wyoming. I have only managed to find one island and one token so far: Big Island (Green River, Wyoming) Mine Refinery, OCI, 1oz 999 FINE Silver I had to look at different old maps because this island is no longer there. But old maps show that it was:

One of the participants of the topic on the previous pages was interested in what the system and logic of this game is. Now look what we have already done in the end.
We took a list of all the states in alphabetical order:
List of States in the United States
AL Alabama AK Alaska AZ Arizona AR Arkansas CA California CO Colorado CT Connecticut DE Delaware FL Florida GA Georgia HI Hawaii ID Idaho IL Illinois IN Indiana IA Iowa KS Kansas KY Kentucky LA Louisiana ME Maine MD Maryland MA Massachusetts MI Michigan MN Minnesota MS Mississippi MO Missouri MT Montana NE Nebraska NV Nevada NH New Hampshire NJ New Jersey NM New Mexico NY New York NC North Carolina ND North Dakota OH Ohio OK Oklahoma OR Oregon PA Pennsylvania RI Rhode Island SC South Carolina SD South Dakota TN Tennessee TX Texas UT Utah VT Vermont VA Virginia WA Washington WV West Virginia WI Wisconsin WY Wyoming
And above we found in each state one or more islands, and showed a token or coin for it, one or several different ones. In fact, in different states there is usually a whole series of islands and tokens for them. So far, as far as I can see, no one has researched this.
The only state for which there is nothing on this topic yet is New Mexico.

On the one hand, to continue this game, you can choose one of the states and explore it. Or you can choose one specific island that has a large number of its own numismatics, and also explore it. On the other hand, in addition to the states mentioned, I take an additional official list of additional territories. For starters, it looks like this: Insular areas USA Inhabited territories:American Samoa, islands Guam, islands Northern Mariana Islands Puerto Rico, islands U.S. Virgin IslandsUninhabited territories: Baker Island Howland Island Jarvis Island Johnston Atoll, islands Kingman Reef Midway Atoll, islands Navassa Island Palmyra Atoll, island Wake Islands Disputed territories:Bajo Nuevo Bank (Petrel Islands) Serranilla Bank (Beacon Island) List of Guano Island claims:A number of islands were claimed as insular areas on behalf of the United States under the Guano Islands Act of 1856. These claims were made by private individuals to the U.S. Department of State and were not accepted by the United States unless certain conditions were met. The islands had to be unoccupied and outside the jurisdiction of another government; the claims also had to be bonded before the U.S. government would consider them insular areas of the country. As of 2023, only the eight islands administered as the US Minor Islands and the ones now part of Hawaii and American Samoa remain under the jurisdiction of the United States. Any other unresolved claims, if they exist, are dormant, and have not been contested by the United States in many years with the exception of Navassa. Alto Velo Island Butaritari (Makin Atoll, Makin Island) Caroline Island (Millennium Island ) Clipperton Island (Passion Island) Ducie Island French Frigate Shoal islands Howland Island Aves island (Isla de Aves) Kiritimati (Christmas Island) Malden Island Marcus Island (Minami-Tori-shima) Swains Island Fanning Island (Tabuaeran island) Washington Island (Teraina island)It is interesting that all these islands also have their reflection in numismatics. Does anyone know anything about numismatics for these islands?

Additionally and separately, I also see such islands in numismatics: Tutuila Island (American Samoa) Cocos Island (Guam) Saipan island, Tinian island, Rota, Maug Islands, Pagan, Agrihan Island, Alamagan Island (Northern Mariana Islands) A series of individual islands around Puerto Rico island with different types of tokens A series of individual islands on the U.S. Virgin Islands with different types of tokens Has anyone already been interested in what kind of numismatics exists on this topic?

It is interesting that all these islands also have their reflection in numismatics. Does anyone know anything about numismatics for these islands? I'll show you what we're talking about. It seems to me that many people have simply never thought about such questions. Look, I've collected rare publications about these two islands mentioned above and made a collage for the purpose of researching the issue: These are the disputed American islands in the Pacific Ocean. How do you like such research in numismatics? Do you know anything and have you encountered such questions before?

Alto Velo Island Here's another option. I managed to find out about the existence of at least five types of tokens. Three of them were at auctions, so I can show photos. There was a special publication about the fourth token. There is only a text description about the fifth token.. Is this interesting?
