Quote: Why is it that artists like that pose of the standing figure with right arm extended? In Christianity-based religious iconography, it is pretty much always the right hand that extends the welcome and that shapes the Sign of the Cross. Not to be irreverent here, but if you walk through the major museums of Europe, you could justifiably conclude that there were no left-handed saints, angels, deities, or other revered religious figures.
Historically there's always been lots of good/evil subtext in any discussion of handedness.
Great grosso, by the way!

Indeed. Sinister is Latin for left.

From my Regency Period collection, a very rare 1811 silver two-shilling token struck by Thomas Halliday for circulation by William Parson of Attleborough in Norfolk, Britain. Parson's family were grocers and fishmongers -- hence the allegorical "fishwife" depicted on the obverse.
The over-the-top coat of arms presented on the reverse belongs to the Duke of Norfolk. (Flamboyant much?)

Turns out that the Venetian-Byzantine world churned out LOTS of types with two figures, sometimes both standing. Here is a trachy of Manuel I (1160-1164), with two standing figures reverse (the emperor and Saint Theodore):
