The main downside honestly in this series is the fact that the coins are so expensive. Unlike many other coin series, Shield nickels are hard to find that aren't all beat up or corroded. So when you generally find a nice one, depending on the date, it can be pretty costly. It's easy to find certain dates however for cheap if you look around enough. Some of the coins, like right now, I'm on a hunt somewhat for some 1872, 1874, 1875 and 1876 coins. There aren't really any affordable that aren't all beat up. The 1882 I got recently? It was in decent shape. I'd settle for some that looked like that. Lol. But I can't find any honestly without paying big bucks. There was recently a really decent 1871, which is a really difficult find, for around 120 bucks on ebay.
