I recently got an 1882 in the mail. Not bad for 12 bucks. I may buy a nicer one down the road. The 1882's are pretty common for Shield nickels.

Thank you! And yes, I agree.

The main downside honestly in this series is the fact that the coins are so expensive.
Unlike many other coin series, Shield nickels are hard to find that aren't all beat up or corroded.
So when you generally find a nice one, depending on the date, it can be pretty costly.

I've shied away from this series for a bit to focus on my other coin series, especially because they are much cheaper lol

Agreed. Just wish the coins were a bit cheaper.

It's easy to find certain dates however for cheap if you look around enough. I want them to look good, though.

Patience.

Yeah, coming from me, the guy who took nearly 30 years to fill a 7070.

Very nice! Definitely a tough set to get involved in. I have a feeling that actual numbers available to collectors, with readable dates, are quite a bit lower than mintage numbers, by far.

Perhaps! It's kind of frustrating honestly. Some of the coins, like right now, I'm on a hunt somewhat for some 1872, 1874, 1875 and 1876 coins. There aren't really any affordable that aren't all beat up.
The 1882 I got recently? It was in decent shape. I'd settle for some that looked like that. Lol. But I can't find any honestly without paying big bucks.

There was recently a really decent 1871, which is a really difficult find, for around 120 bucks on ebay. I went back to take a second look at it and it was gone.
