There is a list of platforms & auction sites I have used in the past. I understand you don't like ebay but I've picked up my lion's share of inexpensive UNC notes over the past 2 years from some good sellers. I reviewed 7 of my favourites in my "2020 Observations." For examples from Portugal, I bought about 6 from:

One of the things I like about these banknotes, beside their great designs, is the number/variety of signatures/dates. Keeps things interesting & I'm always learning about them. BTW 'hfcjacinto' the one you posted appears to be P-180g(2) with Pereira signature.

If you can buy locally than go for it. You skip the anxiety one experiences waiting over a month (or more) from the sellers 'across the pond.' I had to buy a couple of 1986 notes from the Solomons as well as a few other nations so my total tally helped defrayed the cost of postage. It is true that the seller I mentioned has reduced selection lately (he had far more to choose from when I bought last year).

My main concern has always been: that the notes are indeed 'UNC,' well packaged & were listed correctly. That has been my only beef with a tiny minority of ebay sellers.

On a side note: I dropped into a couple LCS while in Leipzig, Frankfurt & Salzburg, Austria. My first issue was that the notes were generally over graded (with corner flicks, nicks or other minor distractions) but no mention of these & thus overpriced. I chatted with each one but only the one guy seemed reasonable in wishing to 'make a deal.'

Here's a note that may appear fairly ordinary but is actually a tough one b/c a) its under 1000 (so low #)
and b) it is signed by Duterte in 2006 (so one of the first to appear with his signature & tough to find in UNC) which was obtained from a repeat seller I reviewed in 2020.

I picked up a couple 10 Cruzeiros from Brazil that feature Getulio Vargas & allegory of unity:
The first P-167a was printed in 1961 by the American Bank Note Co:


and the 2nd:
P-177a printed in 1962 by Thomas De La Rue:



The very odd thing about these 2 notes is that P-167b was later printed in 1963 by ABNC again (with the blue colour). This must have been pretty confusing and if things weren't bad enough they switched to a completely different colour scheme with the "Cruzeiros Novo" in 1966.

Thanks 'hfjacinto' - I thought the 2 from a colony of Portugal were a fitting follow-up to your 1954 20 Escudos (above).

There are many inexpensive classic designs printed right up into the 1990's from various South American nations. The following 2 are printed by TDLR with lots of multicoloured planchettes seen on the reverse.

Moving north, these 2 banknotes come from Ecuador which no longer issues its own currency (using the USD instead).

The first is a 5 Sucres P-113d featuring a portrait of Antonio Jose de Sucre - the denomination namesake (& one the last 5 Sucres printed in the year 1988):



The 2nd is this 100 Sucres featuring a portrait of Simon Bolivar (P-123 series VZ which was the last series of 100 Sucres printed in 1990):

Nice addition to my British banknote collection. I had a circulated version of that which I brought from London myself sometime in 2006 or so. I upgraded it into a Gem UNC one from a local auction house.

I have some history with Lowther signed banknotes. For the last 20 years I went back and forth to the UK dozens of times. Those notes are my first British notes that I used while I was there.

Today's is a 500 escudos.
