I recently found this remainder Farmers Bank of China 5 Yuan of 1935. It appears to have been crossed out in red pencil. It's clearly been circulated. I've long had a theory that such remainder notes were thrown into circulation (along with more common Central Bank of China etc) after the outbreak of WWII, probably by the Japanese.  |

I am the same as otto.
Principally a coin collector, I have perhaps 200 banknotes, mainly cheapies.
I will add anything to my Note collection that may be of interest, and what appears to be really good value for money, at the time of purchase. As with coins, historical interest and condition are important.
I do not regard myself as a confident expert in the area of notaphily. Thus, I stand to learn much in a thread such as this one.

Mexican revolutionary notes/provincial & provisional war notes are all very popular (which is understandable- given their size & classic designs). I do not regard myself as a confident expert in the area of notaphily. That's great that you've got a collection of 200 (or so) notes & a coin collector. I still regard most World currency as fairly good value (esp the farther back you go & the notes with decent eye appeal). There are many nations that are far scarcer than Bank of Canada notes I primarily focussed in when I started out. These BoC notes are much more expensive so I often feel I can't go wrong with my UNC world purchases. I have absolutely no knowledge of coins (other than high grade will be valued more than low grade) so your expertise in paper is far greater than my knowledge of coins. I also still regard myself a novice in World currency since it's such a vast subject & have only been at it for 10 years or so. Learning is the fun part. Quote:
