Post An Ike (Eisenhower Dollar)

If it's a 1974 D, it's not going to be silver. Unless you know something I don't in which case please enlighten me.

I stand corrected! I did a little research this morning and found this.

"The 1974D Silver clad Eisenhower dollars were discovered by a blackjack dealer in Las Vegas. So far, only about 30 pieces are known to exist. The normal clad pieces have a red or, when oxidized, dark gray edge. Silver clad pieces have a white edge. Silver clad piece weigh 24.59 grams, copper-nickel clad examples, 22.68 grams. A ring test (see a numismatist for this) yields a different pitch for each type.

If you believe you have a silver clad 1974D dollar, you will want to have it certified or authenticated. You can contact ANA, PCGS or NGC for reliable authentication. See their links on the CoinSite Links Page"

There are several off year silver ikes that are super rare. the 74d, 76d which I believe is a type 2 and a 77d. all three are 40% silver and very rare

The listing said it included the Eisenhower dollar, but I scrolled farther down the listing, he says it's a stock photo :( it was a misleading discription but I should have scrolled all the way down. Oh well, now the chances of the 74 D being silver are even lower! Haha. This stuff always happens to me.

Speaking of stock photos...

My biggest gripe is finding a nice looking Ike in the list only to click on it and see a "quantity" box on the actual listing.

While at the bank to get rolls of quarters for my ATB collection, I asked, as usual, if they had any silver dollars. Expecting the usual blank stare and the stock NO answer, I was shocked when the teller said "as a matter of fact someone just turned in a bunch of them." Through my excitement I said "I want them." The teller laid out 40 Ikes and said "how many?" Of course I took them all. Needing a 1973 to complete the base year set I hurried home. I didn't get the '73, but to my shock I did get a '76 type 1 which I needed AND a '72 S Finding a S mintmark in anything circulated here on the gulf coast is amazing and a time to celebrate! It's heavily tarnished, but it's my first S Ike and I love it.
