The bicentennial coins were minted in both years

Got it. So basically at least for San Francisco mint there is clear differentiation, Type I - early mintage year 1975 with
2,845,450 mintage and Type II minted in 1976 with total run of 4,149,730 pieces?

If I'd need - and I certainly do :) - to get a Type II I should look for 1976 Proof set?

Yes. But the two varieties apply to the business strikes from Philadelphia and Denver as well.

Very interesting! It was a good choice to share here. Even though I would have seen it in your topic, other certainly may have missed it.

Jbuck, you know how to motivate people :). Thanks for reminding!

So totally it makes 4 business strikes + 2 clad proofs + 2 silver proofs = 8 Bicentennial Ikes.

I think I am gonna buy a 1976-S Type 2 Clad Ike to replace the Silver Ike I bought. I do like the Type 2 reverse better.

I did :) It's really inspiring. And I also found out that I messed up a bit. There are no Type I/II for Silver Ike's but Proof/UNC instead.

Some disappointment also - I checked my stock of coins for US mint sets and found something called "Denver Mint Souvenir Set" in original blue envelope. Is includes 1976 Bicentennial Set BU in plastic but instead of Ike there is some bloody copper mint token! Arrgh.
