Yeah, I realized this DOES NOT belong in my junk pile, that's why I'm trying to find some info on this.

I was examining my "junk silver" and noticed a 1928-S Standing Liberty quarter. According to my 2021 Red Book, there are large and small varieties of the 'S' mint mark. I'm certain that this is a large S. Aside from the mention in the Red Book that large and small varieties exist, I cannot find anything regarding the number of large vs. small mint marks, or the value of large vs. small mint marks.

Does anyone have any ideas on where I can find this information?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

No mint mark means it was made in Philadelphia along with 245,000,000 other ones. Very common.

I was also close to giving up on this too. After hundreds of errors, I lost track of how many attempts I made to finalize my order. I finally got my order to go through at 12:45. My order acknowledgment email also arrived without me ever getting the acknowledgment screen on the mint website. My confirmation email came in at 4:27 PM.

I am also wondering if this was an intentional slow-down on the part of the mint or if they are so inept they simply can't figure out how to get enough horsepower to make their servers efficient enough to for a release like this. They are a government agency, so perhaps they don't have the funds to "power up" for a single event.

I agree with MisterT and think it's a solid VG-10. I don't think there is enough detail overall for an F12 grade.

I have been waiting patiently for my Santa gift to arrive and it showed up today.
I am totally blown away at all the goodies in the package.
Here is a picture of the wrapped bundle:

It included 4 post cards from Japan, which I'm pretty sure is where it's from and explains why it's arrival was delayed:

Also an Australia fridge magnet, apparently my Santa moves around:

A nice assortment of coins & tokens, the oldest of which is from China Han Dynasty in 118 BC and another from the Sassanian Empire from 200 - 600 AD:

Along with a Philippines Commemorative Coin:

A Kadena Air Base token, perhaps Santa is in the military:

A Sasebo Japan token:

A USS Green Bay token (maybe Santa is a Packer fan?):

And last, but certainly not least, a 1945 Philippine dime in MS65, which means Santa knows I like silver:

(It's really much prettier than the above pictures. Getting a decent image thru a slab still gives me fits.)

There are quite a few things here that I don't know much about, so I clearly have some research to do over the next several months. It's always fun learning about new things, especially in the cold winter months. The tokens will go nicely with my token collection. Since I live in Wisconsin, I particularly like the USS Green Bay token. (Go Packers! All the way to the Super Bowl!) The 1945 dime from the Philippines is very cool and will go nicely with my type collection, which I may now have to expand and include U.S Territories.

I just have to say to my Secret Santa -
Thank you, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!

This was well worth waiting for!

Also, a big THANKS to Richard for organizing this again. It's one of the highlights of the year - especially this past year.

I personally think it's a 63. Having said that, I've seen worse in a 64 slab, so what grade the TPG's would give it is hard to say.

Absolutely a fake and probably not silver. Like Pacificoin said, $25 for an 1895 Morgan is not anywhere near the correct cost.

silverexile, I wish I could offer an idea, but the only one I have involves a blow torch and it would likely do a fair amount of damage to the coin. I'll have to subscribe to this post to see what kind of ideas people offer.

Hello There, the Seated Half you received by itself was an awesome gift. You were obviously VERY GOOD last year.
