Yes, you're right. An obvious and elementary test. Indeed, iron.

When I cleaned it, it didn't seem like iron to me.
Besides, I also rely on the opinion of the auction representatives.
It's not my medal, by the way. ))) I would never pay that kind of money.

It must be admitted that the design of the emblem has changed over the years and on the medal the lady with the shield looks the best.

Another rather rare medal. The author and maker are unknown.
One of the curious things is the unusual position of the reverse relative to the obverse (when turn).

One of the most mysterious medals. Neither the author, nor the manufacturer, nor the mintage are known.

It is clear that neither one nor the other is made from a photograph, but feel the difference, as they say.

I have also seen it only once and now it is in my collection. The only hope is for another such owner who has a little more information about the medal than everyone else.

"A Decade Of Growth" - 1960, 1965 Or 1970?

Yes, that's right, it's "The Philadelphia Inquirer 1960-1970".

It is traditionally believed that Bastian Bros. used the trademark "Whitehead & Hoag" until 1965.
To use this paperweight as an advertising tool (a promotional piece) in the 60s, declaring some growth, given that the period was not yet over - this is, let's say, too reckless.
But at the end of the specified period, as a confirmation of what is written, it is quite logical.
I believe that Bastian Bros. did not stop producing products using the trademark "Whitehead & Hoag" in 1965, some medals were issued in 1970.

And I think not earlier than 1970. Otherwise, it all looks too self-confident.
But then it would be worth editing traditional history (the last years of the brand's) existence a little "Whitehead & Hoag".

Do you think the phrase "A Decade Of Growth" on the reverse could have been written at the beginning of the period, i.e. in 1960?
May be in the middle, i.e. in 1965?
Or is it more correct to consider that 'growth' can be discussed only in 1970, when this 'growth' can be confirmed in fact?
I am trying to establish the year of issue of the medal.

It always seems that if there is no information in a broad sense, then you will be the first to voice it. But...
Just have to be a little more persistent in searching for it.

There is a separate branch dedicated to MACo, and I have already posted enough medals from my favorite W&H Co.
Whom have I missed?
I know one more - St. Louis Button Co., but I have not found a worthy medal.
