I got this token from an antique shop for free yesterday. Does anybody have any info about this token? I can't find any at all. Even google image search hasn't worked for me. This token is 30mm, and 2.25 grams. Based off the text, I think this token has a connection to the Hiram Walker and Sons Ltd. distillery, but I'm not sure. Help would be appreciated. Thank you!

I got this from an antique shop today. Is this a casino token? Does anyone know the origin, history, composition, and value?

Edit: I found out that the language is Dutch and in the 1880's, casino didn't necessarily refer to a gambling establishment, but rather a social club. I found the reverse translates to "exhibition of agriculture and horticulture 1884", and the "landbouw" on the obverse translates to "agriculture". I also believe "Valkenburg" on the obverse is a name of a town in the Netherlands. This medal is 40mm in diameter, 3.5mm thick, and 25.54 grams. |

I was looking at this medal under the microscope and found doubling. Based off of the looks, I thought it was just machine doubling, but I found that every other medal also exhibits this doubling. So now, I'm wondering if this is a doubled die. Here's a link of three other medals sold in a stacks-bowers auction exhibiting the same doubling on all three medals: https://auctions.stacksbowers.com/l...-mint-state? The doubling is on the reverse, and is most prominent in the inscription "ANA". More doubling is visible in other areas as including some portions of "Philadelphia" Does anybody have any insights? Thank you!

I got this medal a few months ago. I was wondering what the value is. Here's some info I found about this medal: The diameter of this medal is 27mm, and a total of 2,220 of these medals were minted. 2,000 in .995 copper, 200 in .999 silver, and 20 in 22kt gold. This was originally supposed to be struck at the Franklin Institute Science Museum in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on March 23, 2000; due to mechanical problems however, the date was postponed and struck at the Gallery Mint Museum in Eureka Springs, Arkansas instead. After they finished striking these medals, the steam press was donated to the ANA and is on display at the Money Museum in Colorado Springs, CO.
I see two sold listings for non-error versions of this medal on ebay. They each sold for about $10. These were sold on March 24, and March 31. There are also 2 unsold listings. One for $35, and another one trying to sell the copper and silver version for $95. I also know a die pair that struck this medal sold for $705 in a stack's bowers auction.
Link to sold auction: https://auctions.stacksbowers.com/l...-mint-state.
How I got this medal: The ANA has a monthly YN (young numismatist) auction; having three or four lots you can choose to bid on. In the auction, you're only allowed spend ANA currency called YN dollars. You can get YN dollars for completing certain activities. This lot sold for 242 YN, and was the most popular lot with over 20 bids.
Are there any other known errors? This is one of my favorite pieces in my collection and I don't plan to sell this medal. Value and possible new info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! |
