I also have had this in my change for awhile and noticed the thickness (though worn) on the '19'and 'ty' obverse and want to know if there's a way to know it's dd or has time taken a toll for figuring that out. I know that it's already recognized in the thickness of the numbers and on some letters of liberty as well as on rev America and on States. Please and thank you

Thanks, everyone. TacoSalad, yes, and also along the I in Liberty... The L, I, B have the same angle light marks to the left of the letters. The Connecticut ones are just too much to look at lol. JimmyD #128518; I've been putting off laundry and this was a "legit" way to me lololol. Whoever suggested Minnesota trees and Ellington piano keys: I have one of each so I'll double check (I did take a bunch of photos of the trees already) Whoever said it's hard to tell from the photos: can you tell me what could make them better and easier to see so I can improve that? (Last night I tried taking a few photos from my phone through a magnifying glass and though my phone's inferior with the pixels that might be the way to go for this purpose. I took a few of some pennies that I think I see some kind of doubling on. I also noticed all my photos look different when on computer vs phone). I can def add some markers to what I think I see. I've got a Louisiana roadrunner that seems off compared to the other. And will do posting under their own respective topics. Thanks again.

Ok, also I notice on the bridge of the nose he appears to be wearing Cleopatra style eye makeup and there appears to be a leaf stamped on the nose right near it. I had just read an informative post on die deterioration and it seemed to explain the 5 dime examples I'd just looked at from my change but then it looked like it had faint letters that were in line with the font used. Will update with better photos soon. Whoever made the die determination post with all the explanation and photos gets a salute from me. |

Thank you all! I come across and save a lot of shiny coins if they appear to be in better condition than they "should be" for their age... How can I tell if it's from cleaning? I'm not necessarily collecting them . Just make sure to throw them in the jar instead of spending them. Often upon a second inspection, I notice things I hadn't previously and put them back in the spend pile (just a habit from years of serving, getting tips and operating a cash register).. how can I tell I'm holding something cleaned and not it's natural state? |

This is invaluable info. Thank you so much. I have dimes from 1990p,1999p,2003p,2012p and 2023d, and they all appear to be in pretty decent condition despite their ages but a few look like they could have DD markings or just be die deterioration as so well defined in this post with all the photos. May still upload those photos anyway to be sure I completely understand lol. Thank you, guy sharing this info. |

I saw an 89 with the same type appearance from silverhound on YouTube during one of his weekly sales roundup videos that said the ones with the center looking like this one were faulty planchettes missing the copper plating and referred to it as partial clad error that's recognized as such. I can't figure out how to respond to particular comments.. just a button that says to report them to staff lol. I want to address the person who commented on the lighting: I don't get much natural light in here and my bulbs are warm so it's been rough trying to get the photos to look uniform and true. I have taken these photos with my phone but I've got some I've taken with a DSLR so I'm probably going to have to pull out the computer and upload photos from that. Also, to the guy who commented about smokers using them as ashtrays: I saw people do that in the 90s and totally forgot about it. As always, appreciate everyone who's taken time to look at my posts and respond &&🙏;;;

All of these are 1999 reverses and one seems questionable to me. It appears to have a space compared to the others and looks similar to others that are wide but I can't quite tell. Of course it would have to be the one in the worst condition. Thanks in advance! Please forgive the cat hairs.. They really want attention while I'm in the middle of something

Yeah, my heart skipped a beat but I knew I wasn't that lucky. It stuck to a magnet. I'm not sure about the attempted deception because it's been in my mom's possession for quite some time... Decades and she won't even check her change for 82d small dates for me lol. I just figured it may have been exposed to something that changed the hue. She told me it was steel so I was pretty confused when it appeared copper. Now watch me come across another and dismiss it and it'll be legit. That's my luck in a nutshell |

I guess I'm wondering if it is something like heat or it was exposed to something that would make it look this way. Also, I don't know if any of the coins my mom gave me had been in his collection. I don't think so but she inherited his home so could've been just hanging out there or she could've gotten it in change. The other older coins don't seem to be in a condition that would be worth collecting. |

My mom gave me a handful of old coins including a 1943 philly steel penny (my grandpa used to collect and had rolls of steel pennies) and I just took it out of the baggie holder and it appears bronze and I'm curious why that would be. I have a 1944 and an 87 in the photo with it for comparison. Never really noticed it through the baggy. I weighed the 44 and 43 and I think my scale is off because they weighed the same and I don't have anything that's 200g on the nose to calibrate it. Thank you in advance
