Hi All, first off sorry about the poor pictures, I am not in possession of the coin and am thinking about buying it From someone amd these are the only pics I have. Has anyone ever seen an indian head cent with this type of error? It looks like the letters on obverse fade out and dissappear with no signs of the date. Possible strike through error? Think this has any value? Thanks as always!!

1888 Liberty Quarter Eagle Possible Proof?

Figured I would repost this question with a couple pics. I have an 1888 liberty quarter eagle and while trying to figure the grade I noticed that every business strike I can find online has a clear star with no doubling, and on every single proof I've seen online I've been able to find signs of doubling like it was struck twice. My question is, does anyone know how many times the business strikes are struck and if it was just once? And if the proofs were struck twice, I would assume the one I have is a proof (may not be but trying to narrow this down)? I put my scope and collection away yesterday but can't stop thinking about it. I've included 2 pics to show what I am talking about, not of my coin but the anomalies with the stars only showing to be doubled on the proofs. Does anyone know enough about these to shed shed some light on this? The close up is of the doubling I only see on proof coins, and I showed a pic I found online of the coin I have for refference which I have not been able to find any doubling on business strikes. I'm wondering if mine is a proof as it is sometimes hard to tell with these old gold coins and this may supply an answer. Thanks as always!

It appears to be part of the coin which is odd because you can see a line where it was originally. I've tried to lift it and push it back but no matter what I do it appears to be solid and part of the coin

Question On Whether An 1888 $2.5 Quarter Eagle Is Proof Or Not

Hi All, quick question on a $2.5 liberty head is have. I have been trying to determine grade and while doing so I'm noticing that on every proof picture I see online a few of the stars show signs of doubling like the were punched twice. I do not see that on the business strike on any of many coins I've checked online. Is anyone familiar enough with these to know if business strikes were struck once at the mint and if only the proofs were struck multiple times? Seems very odd that every proof coin I've seen online has a light doubling in the stars like mine does, but I can't find a single example of regular strike with a doubled star. I'm sure you will ask for a pic which I will try and supply when I get back to my scope and can take good pics, but for now we'll test your knowledge and see if anyone knows off the top of their head lol

Any thoughts on what is going on with obverse of this coin? APMD or improper annealing? Something else? Thanks!

Hi All, doing some roll hunting and came across this 1959 D lincoln cents. The 1 in date appears to be broken off, but I've tried moving it and getting under it to see if it was PMD and it appears to be stuck on and the way it was struck. Every see anything like this? Any added value? Thanks as always!

Hi All, it appears the bottom right portion of the "A" in the word Land on this quarter is not in line. Would this be cause by a die break and possibly that small portion of the A moved over a little? I'm assuming not, but does this have any value? Thanks!

Thanks for your thoughts IJN, just looked a little odd to me in couple spots specifically the B has doubled and also the date seems to have a wide spread. Strange but I didn't see anything on Wexlers

Hi All, I just came across this quarter and there is a lot of doubling on the obverse. Is this a doubled die or machine doubling? I'm fairly new and still trying to learn the difference in appearance. Also the ear appears to be doubled on lower lobe. Not sure how well the pics will come through but in addition to doubling on most of the letters the D mint mark is clearly doubled and when looking at it in person one D is slightly different angle then the second D. Can someone please help with what I am seeing here. Thanks as always for you expertise!!

Thanks! Yes the reverse is still very dirty and needs more time in the bath. This is litteraly the first roman coin I've ever worked on so I am not familiar at all with how to figure them out. I've been looking at charts and I have been seeing pictures of "Constans" that look similar. Would this be the same person you are suggesting or someone else?

Hi All, I've had some roman coins sitting in DW for a few months and they are finaly coming clean enough to make out the coin. I'm having a very hard time finding this exact coin! Are there any pros here that could tell me not just the emperor (I think I know but don't want to incase I'm wrong), but also which coin it is? I'm new to this and with the back being so dirty still and not familiar with the emperors it's very difficult figuring them out! Thanks as always for the help!!

Hi All, I got a bunch of half door rolls and am about to start sorting them. Does anyone have suggestions on best way to get started (i.e. organizing them by date then searching the dates, or using a list of key dates and pulling them aside to be checked after)? I've never coin roll hunted before and I'm sure there are techniques to make it go smoothly. Also, I've found a lot of detailed lists for pennys and other coins, but I can't find a comprehensive list for half dollar key dates AND varieties. I'm looking for a list of possibly the top 50 or 100 half dollars to look for, does such a thing exist for half dollars like the lists I've found for pennys? Thanks as always!!!

sorry I should have added pics of the outside rim. It has a strong inward groove with the brightest metal looking like it overlaps then stops where it recesses, almost like a clad but this should not be a clad coin. Is this typical with this type of rim error, or something else going on here?

Hi all, I found this penny in my collection and am having trouble identifying the issues. First, can someone please confirm what the rim issue is? Also, do you see doubling in the date (I am new to this and trying to distinguish between the different "Doubles", but to me with the date showing signs of doubling on each side of the numbers and liberty looking very fat would this be a doubled die? and for the back I have no idea what is going on!! My first guess would be PMD, but something looks odd about it, almost like I'm seeing letters or other designs behind the main strike. In the center of the strike it is very week and can barely read america. it looks like there are scratches all over it but seems weird the front would be in such better condition. Also, whats up with the two dots below wheat stocks? And does that look like an 8 inside the U? When you stare at something long enough you start seeing things lol and I can't figure out whats up with this coin! Thanks as always excited to hear your professional thoughts.

Hi All, does anyone have suggestions on a comprehensive list of errors that can be found in one place? I've found a few onlonline but feel there must be somewhere that had a full directory of all known errors for a specific type coin (i.e. penny, half dollar, etc.). Does such a thing exist? Not specifically DD or other common errors, but a lost of all known varieties? Thanks!!

I was thinking same thing, but seems like a lot of weight to loose to still be able to see detail on the coin. A lot of the lines are still there just covered in crud that I could probably clean off. I think the second S in cents is pretty clear, does anyone see the second S? I can't find anything online about it

I'm seeing some odd things on this coin... I wish it was cleaner and could make them out!! Does anyone see a second S in cents on the reverse? I've also been trying to decider the date but It looks like there are date numbers not exactly aligned with where they should be. Doesn't make sense but as I know they are stamped with the rest of coin but from different angles it really looks like another date with different font. Any thoughts on the second "s" after cents?

Hi All, I found this buffalo nickel in my collection and happened to put it on my scale. It reads 4.5 grams and all my other buffalo nickels are right around 5 (where I believe it should be so I think the scale is right on). Any thoughts on why this would weigh so much less? I'm a novice but I don't think these were clad so wouldn't be missing clad right? My first though is PMD but seems strange to loose that much weight and still see a lot of the coin. I think I could clean it to see date but wanted to try and get some info before doing anything to it (I know don't CLEAN IT!! LOL). It also seems thinner than my other buffalo nickels. Could it be wrong planchet or something else? I have others worh environmental damage but this ones throughing me off cause ot doesn't look like my other tarnished nickels.
