Spence;

Oh, duh!
You wrote cutter, but I was thinking brush.

Thank You!

Spence;
Interesting, I hadn't even noticed that all the cuts lined up!
Also wondering, though: Why do you suppose that there are no marks on the rim's edge?
Thanks

Hello Everyone!

So I have mixed thoughts. If the coin only had the Obverse issues at the top, I'd say it looks like PMD's (cuts) because they look straight and extend from rim to Jefferson's head.
The Reverse, however, makes me lean towards some sort of defect. Things are not straight and they seem to incorporate the rim into them.
Thoughts?

Thank You!

Thank You!
I'm slowly starting to differentiate certain errors vs PMD's!

Hi
Of course, horrible condition!
I know there is a D/D in 1964, but, I am thinking this is just an extreme shift on a mechanical doubling.
Thoughts?
Thanks!

Hello Everyone!

OK, I know this coin has been beat up, but, thoughts on Struck Through Grease?
At first I thought just wear, but the rim seems to have consistent wear around the entire coin. The inner edge of the rim also seems to be flat and straight all the way around.

Thanks!

Marve65,
Yes, me too LOL
That's one of the reasons I only look at 70's and earlier nickels.(sometimes, I only keep pre 1960 and don't even look at anything else!!)

So.... Got a sealed bank box of 2023P Jefferson Nickels yesterday.
Waddaya think? With a mintage of 692.6 M, should I just put them into circulation, or put them in the back of a closet for my grandkids to find someday?

Can't tell. I don't have a coin scale.
My kitchen scale fluctuated between 5 & 6 grams the first time, then 4 & 5 grams.
Guess if I'll need to get one if I get more involved with coins!

Any ideas on what would cause the damage on the reverse?

Hello!!
Need help on this one, please!
The obverse, I might attribute to staining, PMD, etc (thoughts?)
But the reverse...don't have a guess! Hopefully pics show well enough to get the idea of what it looks like. Sort of a topography map of mountain ranges. The appearance similar to using a straw to blow on drying paint to give it structure.

Thanks!!

Jbuck;

WOW, those numbers are higher than the ones I saw!
I knew they'd be high, though. That's the only reason why I MIGHT keep the full, unopened box.

jbuck;

I MIGHT just keep the box! I peaked through the holes so that I didn't have to open the box.
Just when the 2024's seemed to be rolling in LOL

Got excited!!
Went to the bank and got a full box of new nickels!
Unfortunately, they're 2025's!

(I did get another box of 2024P's yesterday, though)

Yes, it has!
Figured D.D. was just curious about the width of the letters. Guess the flattening would do that!

So....this looks different and interesting to me, because of how wide the letters are.
Is this some sort of unusual die deterioration, or something more exciting?

Thanks
