Gorgeous set. I love the colors that the Indian head proofs have. Extremely attractive and unique to that set of coins.

Have any other coins in your collection changed drastically, or is it just the half dime?

Very interesting reading. Thank you for sharing. President Theodore Roosevelt still hasn't been depicted on a U.S. coin one hundred years later, even though he was instrumental in beautifying our coinage in the early decades of the last century.

rkennedy1945; Like you and your father, I have an affinity for toned coins, especially for copper coins. Over the years, I have acquired quite a few (mostly U.S. cents) from circulation that are toned very similar to the ones you posted photos of. It doesn't matter to me what was done to these particular coins in the past, whether it be an ancient "cleaning" or exposure to certain chemicals. I mean, heck, they've been circulating for decades. I collect them because I think they are attractive and desirable to me. Isn't that what coin collecting is all about, sorting through your change and saving the ones that turn you on, or a date/mint mark or variety that you need for your collection? The last time I checked, one's collection can be however one wants it to be. The coins you posted are awesome 'and' I want to thank you for sharing.

I believe these coins which were engraved upon contemporary coins by your ancestors to commemorate the historical events of your relative. I imagine these tokens would be highly regarded in Ireland especially in the area where your ancestor lived. I also believe that the tokens all refer to this one man.

It looks to be a $1 California gold souvenir token. Take a magnet to it. If it sticks it's fake.

Your "2 headed" coin is most likely 2 obverse halves that were cut with a laser then bonded together.
