I've found some weight variance on some normal coins as well. This is my 95 that was sent to me by a mate further down south. He had it tested with an XRF spectrometer and there was difference in the metal content as well. Got it somewhere just have to refind it.

I bought it off someone who purchased it from an auction house. He told me it was claimed to be a Gee forgery.

Looks similar to when the bags are getting heat sealed and a coin gets caught in the process.

Wow, it doesn't look like it. That may be a brand new discovery. Doesn't appear on the NZ Error page at the moment. Maybe you need to get in contact with them and get a confirmation on it or at least see what they say. http://www.coinerrors.co.nz/wordpre...0-cent-mule/

Thanks , I started off collecting back in the early 1980's. I was given a partial set of predecimal coins in an album as a gift. Kicked off from there. Was a bit different back then as a few of the older collectors will know. I started collecting the errors and varieties only about 20 years ago. All up this is 40 years.

Don't like jumping in any further with any of these coin clash posts, but I think there is a minor clash mark on the reverse, Sap.

No mintmark coins were deliberately put into circulation due to being excess items. A majority of those fb comments are baseless clueless garbage comments. The newsagency and post office coins were usually minted as corporate deals and have no bearing to RAM mintmarked and privy marked coins. Those excess coins are usually given out in change.

Just wanted to share this one I have over here in Oz. It's a NZ 2 cent piece struck on a Canadian 1 cent blank. Pics are a bit old now.
The Canadian Mint produced coins for New Zealand that year, and it is the same weight as a Canadian 1 cent coin, 2.5 gms.

Thanks , I will have to pull that one out for another look at it, crabeater. Not sure if it was struck on a tapered edge or not as well as being struck through a foreign material. I think that is one of the ones locked up off site. Will have to check, though. I usually take a few pics but there is only a couple of this one.

Knowing how a coin is damaged shouldn't really matter. It could have been filed down or done by a small hand held sander, the cause of the damage will never been known exactly unless you did it yourself or were there and witnessed it, imo.
The edge has been modified after being struck. Most blanks when produced go through a process of having a rim put on them, turning them into planchets. This edge has the appearance of having been filed down.

Have a read up on the upset mill.
