Three last one, from Britany, before it was united with France :

Jean IV, Blanc aux 9 mouchetures, Nantes

François 1er, Blanc à la targe, Nantes

François II, Gros à l'écu, Rennes

Thanks for the topic, anyway . those were hard times indeed . in our collective memory forever, I think about it every year, as well as about Charlie on January the 7th, 2015.

Just noticed the topic, I had to send a couple of coins from my country, which I don't think were posted :)

Gaul - Statère globulaire - Senons (near Sens, south east of Paris) :

This is not a common coin, you'll only get it from serious auction houses / seller.
That one came from Stack's & Bowers (stacksbowers.com) - you can also check on Heritage Auctions (ha.com) for example.

Sending that one to a TPG may end to be pretty fun . ;)

In any case, if this is really a fake one . it's scary indeed.

Hi,

The 1/4 real just had a castle on one side and a lion on the other side.
The cross design was used on 1/2 reales - with a monogram on the other side.

This looks like a trimmed / worn-out 1/2 real to me.

Indeed - I called those low quality compared to the better one they now make.
I was among those fooled by those copies when I started, indeed.

Pistareen : fixed my title.
As to what tipped me - I'm too used to see those low quality copies, they sell for a buck or two in China .
Flat / dull field, almost no denticles, details missing sharpness, etc .

We have seen many pictures (as well as picturs of other coins), but still no clear shot of the coin's rim as requested .

Could you please post a clear picture of the rim of the first coin, as asked ?
I also see odd things which go beyond Potosi's mint rim pattern crudeness.

eBay and handling of counterfeits . it has been getting worse and worse, and they just don't care : they get a share of everything crooks are selling.

nicolashsing : depends, I start by trying to open them from the side cleanly with a big knife, to keep the box "in case" (I know it's useless for authentication once opened, but if a new buyer wants a grading number instead of falling in love with look of the coin itself . at least I have it somewhere).
If it don't work, a hammer on the side can indeed do it - or a vise if you have that on hand :)
And in any case . the idea is not to damage the coin ;)
