Can't tell much from these images. You could probably get better shots if you take the coin out of the 2X2.

Looks like there might be a touch of wear on the high points. The color seems too good to be true, especially since there is no visible luster. My call based on what I can see is AU detail, cleaned and recolored.

Actually looks possibly authentic to me. Detail is maybe Fine-12. The narrow rims with wire-like raised edges are common counterfeit indicators. The lettering, date, and devices however look much better than you see on the typical modern fake.

Perhaps the suspicious rims and obliterated Liberty are damage caused by a brutal mounting in a bezel. I'd measure the weight and confirm the coin is not attracted to a magnet. If it checks out it might be worth a submission to ANACS. A damaged but authentic 1799 dollar will still have decent value.

Is there a background story for this coin?

Here are the top two prizes for our coin show raffle. I think we offer the best prizes of any show in the entire state. If you know of a show with better prizes please report about it!

Question: are normal clad half dollars accepted by CoinStar machines? If so, are the silver-clad halves consistently rejected? The weights are very close so I'd be interested in knowing how the machine tells the difference.

The cameo frost on this Morgan is exceptional and adds eye appeal. That same frost unfortunately makes the cheek and neck abrasions look more obvious. The 62 grade is pretty strict.

If it upgrades to a 63 is there a big value boost?

Not familiar with this series but the grainy texture and poorly formed denticles look bad. I found a certified example on Heritage and it is well-struck with none of the grainy look of your coin. I'd return it if I were you.

My gold find post was moved to the World Coins forum; probably I should have put it here in the CoinStar Finds thread initially. For you skeptics, I did actually find this in a Walmart CoinStar reject slot, 4 days ago. At first glance I thought it was a Chuck-E-Cheese or similar token but fortunately not. After confirming the weight was correct at 6.72 grams I concluded this is a genuine Netherlands 10 Gulden gold coin from 1875. You can bet I'll be more diligent about checking local CoinStars, at least until the buzz wears off!

My only input to this thread is to note that I've seen bizarre metal content results when using XRF to read slabbed coins. If you try to run XRF testing through plastic you can see high readings for elements that aren't really there.

VG-08 I think but I wouldn't be shocked if PCGS gave it VG-10. Often a pre-1925 SLQ with this much overall wear would have the date completely obliterated but this one is a happy exception. Very decent example for a circulated set!

Thanks for all the comments. Referring to the very informative website ngccoin.com I learned this Netherlands 10-Gulden gold piece is a 1-year type coin with a huge mintage of 4,110,000. Weight is 6.729 grams, fineness is 90%, and actual gold content is 0.1947 troy ounces for a current melt value of $378.20. It carries no premium value over gold content unless it is in choice mint state. I guess it's not inconceivable that such a common coin could be dropped into somebody's change jar and end up at a CoinStar. Lucky for me!

If I ever felt embarrassed about scavenging for change at a CoinStar I think I'm over it now!

Minor luster disruption on the obverse but should qualify as MS. Numerous small contact marks are consistent with a 63 grade. Nice type coin.

Could be!

Went to our "neighborhood market" Walmart hoping to get a rotisserie chicken but it turns out they don't have them there. I checked the CoinStar reject slot on my way out and found some coins: a couple Zincolns, a dime, a nickel, two Euro cents, a modern Chinese copper coin, and this:

Weight is correct, design elements all look right, reeded edge is intact with no blemishes. An actual gold coin from 1875, from the Walmart CoinStar. I'm happy!

Nice-looking original coin. Weak skirt lines are standard for early Walkers. The minor scratch at the eagle's beak does not detract. Breast plate looks too weak for XF; I'd be at VF-30 or 35. Price seems fair.

Lots of luster loss and the flat breast isn't all strike-related.
XF-45 if conservatively graded. Could stretch to a 50.

Looks like definite friction on Liberty's knee and breast. A few small contact marks but lots of luster. AU-58.

The 1881-O is harshly cleaned as noted. Looks live the reverse image shown is the same as the 1891-O.

Slight reverse rim damage on the 1883-O. The 83, 87, and 91 are decent circulated coins in the F-VF range.

AU-50 overall. The reverse green specks seem pretty minor.

I see what looks like damage on Liberty's knee. Might that be enough to risk a Details grade if the coin were cracked and re-submitted?

Lack of luster does suggest this coin did circulate briefly. Too late for a blind evaluation but I was thinking AU-58 at first glance. The assigned grade does seem harsh.
