Can't tell much from these images. You could probably get better shots if you take the coin out of the 2X2.
Looks like there might be a touch of wear on the high points. The color seems too good to be true, especially since there is no visible luster. My call based on what I can see is AU detail, cleaned and recolored. |

Actually looks possibly authentic to me. Detail is maybe Fine-12. The narrow rims with wire-like raised edges are common counterfeit indicators. The lettering, date, and devices however look much better than you see on the typical modern fake.
Perhaps the suspicious rims and obliterated Liberty are damage caused by a brutal mounting in a bezel. I'd measure the weight and confirm the coin is not attracted to a magnet. If it checks out it might be worth a submission to ANACS. A damaged but authentic 1799 dollar will still have decent value.
Is there a background story for this coin? |

The cameo frost on this Morgan is exceptional and adds eye appeal. That same frost unfortunately makes the cheek and neck abrasions look more obvious. The 62 grade is pretty strict.
If it upgrades to a 63 is there a big value boost?

Not familiar with this series but the grainy texture and poorly formed denticles look bad. I found a certified example on Heritage and it is well-struck with none of the grainy look of your coin. I'd return it if I were you. |

My gold find post was moved to the World Coins forum; probably I should have put it here in the CoinStar Finds thread initially. For you skeptics, I did actually find this in a Walmart CoinStar reject slot, 4 days ago. At first glance I thought it was a Chuck-E-Cheese or similar token but fortunately not. After confirming the weight was correct at 6.72 grams I concluded this is a genuine Netherlands 10 Gulden gold coin from 1875. You can bet I'll be more diligent about checking local CoinStars, at least until the buzz wears off!

Thanks for all the comments. Referring to the very informative website ngccoin.com I learned this Netherlands 10-Gulden gold piece is a 1-year type coin with a huge mintage of 4,110,000. Weight is 6.729 grams, fineness is 90%, and actual gold content is 0.1947 troy ounces for a current melt value of $378.20. It carries no premium value over gold content unless it is in choice mint state. I guess it's not inconceivable that such a common coin could be dropped into somebody's change jar and end up at a CoinStar. Lucky for me!
If I ever felt embarrassed about scavenging for change at a CoinStar I think I'm over it now! |

Could be!
Went to our "neighborhood market" Walmart hoping to get a rotisserie chicken but it turns out they don't have them there. I checked the CoinStar reject slot on my way out and found some coins: a couple Zincolns, a dime, a nickel, two Euro cents, a modern Chinese copper coin, and this:

Weight is correct, design elements all look right, reeded edge is intact with no blemishes. An actual gold coin from 1875, from the Walmart CoinStar. I'm happy! |
