Except for the number of steps are there any other idiosyncratic marks or errors in the minting to keep an eye out for?

Early mint with the die cracks attract a premium but otherwise its just the steps.
Wear on the high points, especially the reverse is another flag to watch out for before buying.
Good Luck.

Yes the more clear steps the better. The early minted coins had the steps along with the proof Coins.
Apparently the Mint reduced die-pressure to stop the dies cracking early on in the minting process so vast majority of the mintage don't have all the steps.
Holed coins are usually melt value only unless you can find a specific buyer.
The 1927 PH Florin has enjoyed a resurgence the last few years, average egs. have gone from A$5-10 to around $20.

This is a guide to Decimal Oz silver, post 1966,haven't read it myself but has got good reviews.

Plenty of Coin books come and go on Oz. Ebay, just a matter of coaxing them into posting to the USA.

Yes Renniks is available on Amazon or Oz Ebay.
Dealers will ship it to the US.

Greg Mcdonald's "guide to Australian Coins and Banknotes" is also good,i think 2022 is the latest release but all the earlier books are available on Ebay Oz.

A number of times on eBay - win auction with low price bid, coin never delivered, "lost in mail", dealer quickly refunds money - a few weeks later same dealer, same coin listed for a much higher opening bid.

Yes,run into that scenario a couple of times over the years.

Also,i purchased a high grade 1938 Crown from USA Ebay a few years back,Seller had second thoughts about shipping to Aust. and a few days later did a PayPal refund.
Only problem was the OZ $ dropped in value and along with PayPal fees the PayPal refund was nearly A$80 short of the original payment.
Found another way to get ripped off.

I have had no problems the last few years, normal over grading by the Auction House combined with deceptive Pic.hiding flaws is the main worry.
My major beef was with Ebay Oz. in the early days, around 2000,just scammers that listed a certain coin and then sent the buyer something else.Lot better the last 20 years.
