Fake with no doubt. This province never struck any circulating silverdollar. The craft is poor also.

Not look like a 90%Ag coin.
Try sliding down from Neodymium, check speed.
Sound test also
Is it a thicker piece?
I would say it is more likely to be a contemporary counterfeit.

Coin B is believed of harder nature (probably in Cu, Ni texture), the details on the strike is less clear-cut than the softer Ag-Cu official coin (A).

Anyone possess this 1909 Piastre, no matter you think what it is,you can post here for comparison.

@JPL, you could cerncern is likely to be tiny hit/digs, I think they are not "raised metal dots".

JPL, feel odd you imply coin A is fake, no words. Coin A is a well circulated specimen in my humble opinion.

My data and observations:

Coin B: 27.41gr, 39.0mm(measured by caliper),coin alignment, base metal, dentiles counted 146(Obv.) 146(Rev.)

Coin A: 26.98, 39.0mm(measured by caliper), coin alignment, Ag mainly, dentiles counted 146 (Obv.) 146(Rev.)

Overlapping observations of both coins, they are perfectly matched at any positions and every details. Edges of both coins were done well and of same type.

My utmost conclusion is both coins were came from the same die. Is coin B a test coin from the original die and mint? Coin A is problem-free, it is real and original.

Here are more comparison pictures. Welcome any comments on this post.

Not look like a cast. If it is really silver(better S.G. or hitting sound) and the weight is 26.x (please provide a better weight), I would guess it is genuine.

Counterfeiters usually not use real silver to add cost to their business. Strokes of the Chinese characters looks ok and the design looks good.

Just for comparison, the letters look better and not as slim as your posting.
