Here is he is the reverse. I don't know the weight, so I'll have to find a jeweler or cash for gold to weight it

So my grandmother found this coin on the ground. Seems too good to be true. Maybe it is? It has strange oxidation, and smells like a brass house key. It doesn't have that smooth silver feel. Is this fake? Should I get it tested? I hate having coins scratched... Even if they are already scratched!

Thoughts? I appreciate any input!

Yeah, too bad about that! Due to it being roughed up they are both about equal and only worth a few bucks.

I'll have to tell me father in law not to quit his day job

Looking at mintage, I'm confused. Cents has 16 mil, no cents has 5. Isn't no cent more scarce? Looking online I can see its not valuable, but I don't know why.

Ok! here is a video of the search through. I had one good find from the semi key dates and another bad condition find from the key date. I'm attempting to get photos of the good one. Soon to come!

So I'm researching Liberty Nickels because my in-laws found a small coin purse with around 10 or 15 liberty nickels. There's also on silver silver dime and some bus tokens.

From what I can find, it seems almost all dates of any liberty nickels are plentiful besides 1912S. It seems after that the grading is what matter.

The liberty nickels they found are unfortunately in bad shape. So seemingly none with be worth anything, but I wanted to check here to see if I missed anything. Did I get the right impression with my research? Anything else to look for? I'm otherwise completely uninformed in the nickel department.

Thanks for any tips!

I think banks and cashiers simply need to know what is legal currency. The treasury should make an instructional video showing current legal tender.

Then again, they would still have to limit it to the more common stuff. There are a LOT of coins that are legal tender that they will never see.

"Not losing anything unless you sell."

Dirt is right. You only lose when you sell lower than you bought. One should never plan a sell date, because you don't know when the market will change. You sell when you make a profit or need the money for real life stuff, like bills that are important.

Actually, it says free shipping. If it costs $50 and its FV is $50... isn't that just like a $50 bill made of silver? Meaning it will always be worth at least $50?

My attachedness to my hoard depends primarily on my fanatical standing. I can always replace anything I sell. Of course there are pieces I would never sell, but those pieces are terribly expensive anyway.

Yes, yup, I have a very low stack right now. I sell more than I buy, but I still buy and end up keeping things I particularly like. For example, the barbers I got for $1.40 I'm definitely not selling in that price range! Way cooler to me :)

Basically, my collection is growing but my stack is somewhat small right now. This is mainly do to me just trying to be smart with my money since things are a bit tight.

The good thing about buying silver is when I buy, I buy low. If I buy ASEs at spot, I either make a profit or break even when my wife and I need to "break the piggy bank" that is my silver stack.

My stack, however small, provides financial security for us because instead of being a hobby that costs money, I either break even or profit.

Libertad:

I do get my jewelry at spot (or at least very close) because I don't know enough to pay extra for stone, craftsmanship, or antiquity. I just do it as a fun way to stack. I get some nice rings for my wife too :)

I had never heard of the $100 for $100. Is it legal tender? Can you really take it to a bank for a $100 bill? And is there shipping or other costs?

Sounds odd but intriguing. Also, like you said, seems like a sham. Selling $20 of metal for $100... Then again, it costs only 7.8 cents to make each 100 bill here in the US, so if I had to choose between a $100 bill and a $100 coin that at least had SOME amount of its worth in silver I'd want the silver. However, people MAY call the cops if you try and spend something like that :P

I have heard of cops being called for $2 bills! The scary part is when the cops think the $2 bills are fake too!

"Not only do I not find it weird, I find it refreshing."

I agree. Even though we all often get our best finds from ignorance, imagine being on the opposite end! If you had something that was worth 14x what you were selling it for, wouldn't it be nice if someone along the way was honest with you?

I feel like tellers should be honest. It's still annoying when they save them, but it's hard to blame them because I certainly would!

However, I would leave them sitting out there for everyone to see and then call them tokens. Lame!

Next time, say you collect tokens and you'll gladly buy them :)

There is a bank I go to now that is always a bust now. I have gotten over a thousand dollars in silver from them in the pas just by asking if they had halves. They don't anymore, but I keep asking.

You see, silver isn't circulating that much. Usually its when someone spends a grandfather's collection that it get's back into circulation. My biggest score ever was from when a local man (I don't know who) died, and the family brought his whole collection to the bank. My sig has the video.

Basically, that what your looking for. It's all about being in the right place at the right time.Make good friends with tellers and they may even save you some silver! Never be afraid to ask.
