Why I roll search is example my nickel set or penny set needed an 1950 d or some date. I feel like those guys are ebay or coin shops try rip you off on completing sets. Insane prices on the 1950d 1939d, 1939s, 1938 d or s. 27 to 100 dollers or more finish sets. Its not worth it since intire circulated set from 1938 to 1964 is worth about 24 bucks greysheat.
Pennys I love geting bu coins or pre 1982 coppers. Halfs I love those geting silver and building 1964 thru 2001 books with super nice halfs .

The Texas department of criminal justice makes peaple use them all time at the prison units. In all units they have bill changers to turn dollars into dollar coins.

Reason its an felony for family members of inmates to bring in any paper money into an secure prison to visit family members on Death row or any of those convicts there. Paper money is contraband just like drugs or weapons in an texas prison.

So they installed bill changers where employess or inmates family members can spend money in those vending machices since you cant bring any paper money unless you want to go to jail .

It seems the unit I work at the machice for dollar coins is always out and I get to use quarter machices all the time. They go thru tons dollar coins at that place on visit days.

We are forced to use them no mater what and anybody esle who comes into texas prisons . I like geting them out the change machice hoping to find an proof coin or whatever.

I slacked off big time on coins and set building. Reason I started an new job as an Texas Correctional officer working on Death row in the wild prison world. So much training and book work to get into law enforcement. Its nuts to deal some of worst convicts in the state of texas like I been doing in last 3 monlths.I deal with so much stuff in not funny anymore.

My roll searching stoped with my set building. Since all my law book work is done. I can start playing with coins again. Like the last two days I bought some killer deals on proof pennys to finish my sets aslong with searching nickel boxs again to take my mind off my job. I need to go buy serval boxs of Halfs or nickels to play with becides spending all time learning about law enforcement stuff. Have Fun

Badthad,

That 1973 penny I think the white or green can removed no problem. My idea was to use an knife or pick tool. Carefully cut or scrap the green or white off the coin. It can be done but the quastion is what will it look like afterwards.

The 1968s penny you say is toast can be fixed in about 10 secords diping it Murtic acid or pool cleaner. It will eat the green off.

After diped in the m acid the coins will look bright copper again like brand new but not mint state. Can you make them brown again and how do you that again in an short time?

Cdn,

I know those nickels are tough trying find the keys like 1939d, 1939s, 1938 stuff, 1950d, 1951s, 1950 . It seems all wartime silvers, any from s mints are tough. Trust me I know I went thru thousands of nickel rolls over the years. I onley found 1 1939d nickel ever and no 1938d, 1938s, 1939s, 1950d ever yet. I was luckey this year to have found that 1939d nickel to finish my set and I was the guy who posted it this year.

One thing I was going tell you after I did some history reading.

Example on 1950 d nickel. 2.6 milion made in 1950. One company bought up millions of dollars worth 1950d nickels back in 1950. They were hoarded big time and rolls of nickels would sell lots money in 1960 something. Thats the reason why in 2008 you can buy an bu 1950d nickel for 10 to 20 dollars. The trouble nobody knows how many 1950d nickels were circulated or got used as money. Maybe onley 1 million were used as money and 1.6 million was hoarded and never used.

Its also very tough to build nickel set 1938 thru 1961 nickel book since I been trying finish 5 or 6 old sets. They are all missing the 1938d, 1938s, 1939d, 1950d, 1939s, 1951s. I may never finish them since I dont want to buy the keys for 25 to 50 bucks. Reason the intire set can be bought on ebay for same price of me buying the keys . Its not worth it since intire set greysheat at 25 bucks or cost 35 bucks complete on ebay as cirulated.

Thats reason I was always an devoted an lot time searching nickel rolls over the years. I always enjoyed searching nickels and trying to build sets of them.

Good luck and keep going thru those rolls. I just bought 6 boxs from bank and I need start searching them. I hope I can find something good.

There an trick you can use on dumping halfs and it dont involve banks. I do it all the time .

1. You drive an car and use gas. Use them all to buy gas . My record is 80 dollars worth at one gas station. Dont use you gas card or paper money to pay them. At 4 bucks per gallen in texas thats 8 halfs gone per gallen of gas.
2. Use them at fast food places or places you eat. Its easy to dump 5 to 20 dollars worth no problem to eat.
3. Safeway or food market stores. I buy food with them all the time no problem.
4. I even use at the feedstore where I buy my pigs 50 pound bags of food. They love geting my unwanted halfs. Since the clerk loves to give them at as change. She told me the peaple who get them as change thinks its an treat since very few companys give them at change. They love them and they laugh when they get them as change.

Just use them like you would use your credit card or papermoney all the time where you need dump them back into banks.

In searching halfs the trick is you dont want banks send back to fed banks where you will get back in another box you buy from the feds. It has happen me to me once or twice. I got my old halfs back in new wrappers and in new brand new boxs before. The more you push off on companys or peaple the more they will hoard them an remove them from circultion. I have seen clerks go nuts on wore out 71 thru 2001 junk clad halfs. They think they are gold and will buy them and hoard them thinking its gold or something. I seen lots clerks do that thinking they worth something.

The more you keep them out the banks hands and out the feds it beter when you search for coins. I still sometimes dump my halfs into bank machices mixed inside with dimes, pennys, nickels, quarters where bank dont freek out over on just half dollars. I just dump my one week on coin boxs I searched . I go buy another batch of coins from an secord bank .

Have fun chevrolet454ss

If you looking for silver there. Your wasting your time for sure. I went thru 500 dollars worth dimes looking for an 2008 philly coin for my book. Not found yet. I did find one 1964 dime in there. Thats all.

In 1967 thru 1969 the fed banks used machices to remove silver from the clad mix. They went thru billions of dimes and the us mint melted them down back before 1970. Good luck and hope I can find my 2008 philly dime to fimish my set. I hate doing dimes and quarters for sure since fed removed them before I was born.

Those are tough sometimes . I bought an 1988 denver bu roll once and the coins had black spots on them after being in safe for years.

Why do those coins get black spots on them? It seems you cant clean them off. They ruined.

Have Fun doing it. Last year I started to build 13 sets from 1941 thru 2008 going thru bank boxs of coins. An lot wheat pennys I already had from saving them over the years. I started doing it since I bought serval incomplete 1909 thru 1940 books and wanted to update them to brand new folders and with 59 thru 2008 coins to make them worth more money to sell on ebay later since I finished my keeper set.

Tough coins to find are pre 1940 coins, 68 thru 74 s mints, 1982 small date pennys. The rest is easy to find red nice pennys to install in folders.

If you try it like I been doing. You need go thru maybe 50 to 150 dollars per week to get anywhere. I went thru over 1000 dollars worth so far in last year in my spare time. Dont try build one set and try to build serval sets at same time to make it your worthwhile. More trouble than it worth for one set. Try to buy an cheap 1909 thru 1958 wheat penny folder on ebay and just update it.

My collection of pennys had been geting giant over the last year.
13 sets of them in folders, 275 dollars face on 1959 thru 1981 junk copper rolls. 100 to 150 face on blazing red pennys from 1983 thru 2008 I been making solid date rolls out them for ebay or I may build 50 folders later. 35 dollars on 1982 pennys. One small box wheats so far. Good dates found were 1919d, 1919, 1909, 1917, 1927, 1927s, 1923s, 1924s, 1925s, 1930s, 1930d, 1890, 1907, 1920d, 1920s, 1925, 1991 messed up proof penny. One bank box full 1959 thru 1981 pennys that look nice where you can install in sets.

One last thing dont toss your 1959 thru 1982 junk brown pennys . Save them since they will pay over face for them on ebay for copper scrap. I leave 1982 out of my copper boxs since it was an zinc and copper year. I put them in solid date rolls. Also find an dump bank with coin machices to turn them back into paper dollars. Its not worth rolling them up since retail stores hate them .

My penny collection is geting so big and I geting tired of working on them so much. I am about to burn out on pennys and I need to take break from them big time.

Have fun building you sets and hope you find an 1914d, 1931s or something cool.

I bought another 4 boxs of cents from same bank and they came from another coin rolling company and they still had copper in them. Brinks could be pulling copper pennys since they were those clear tubes that was copper free.

I hope I can keep finding pre 1981 copper pennys with no trouble like those copper free boxs.

On boxs they were no date on them like cwi boxs. I am member of real cent forum and I hoard copper like those guys do.

I amazed about Jackson metals. They are Ohio and thought there was an melt ban in place where jackson metals can not melt down pennys or has ban no longer in effect.

In boxs I think they wraped in last few monlths since I found tons of 2008 denver pennys and maybe 7 2008 philly pennys in there. I am amazed all that copper was gone. There were tons au/bu zinc pennys all years old and new in there. Some perfect looking 1990 or 80 something zincs in there.

I just searched two bank boxs from an bank in conroe texas. I bought two bank boxs that the pennys were wraped in clear plastic tubes. In boxs I found an grand totol of 8 pre 1981 copper pennys. They were all zinc junk pennys in boxs. In boxs in soulth texas I always found over 4 or 5 dollers worth of pre 1981 copper aslong with an few wheat pennys. I am afraid the us goverment may be removing the copper pennys from bank boxs like in 1966 thru 1968 when they pulled pre 1964 silver dimes and quarters from bank boxs.

Has anyone esle had this happen and does anybody know if coin rolling companys are pulling all pre 1981 copper pennys from circulation ? Or was this freak deal on those boxs I searched and onley found 8 pre 81 copper pennys.

These boxs were not coin wrap inc coins boxs. I never seen an copper free box before those two boxs after searching boxs on pennys for over an year or so. It looks like my penny folders will not finished since I need old stuff for them. Its no fun and dont have an clue on what happened and why I found onley 8 pennys totol out the 5000 pennys looked at.

I think those quarters will never be worth much money anyway. I built an complete 1965 thru 2007 set last year after going thru 1k worth of them from banks. I could have built another set but why?

On ebay you cant make any money selling complete with paypal and ebay fees on those sets. There are way to many to sellers out there trying to sell those sets or bu quarter rolls. I had serval bu rolls of 2007 quarters I tosed back but have could sold for 13.95 or 15 buck per roll on ebay. After fees on ebay it was cheaper just to spend them or toss in toll booth.

I just kept what I needed for my set and tossed the rest back out there. The onley reason I am built my 1965 thru 2007 folder was I was I wanted to build an 1932 thru 1964 quarter set to complete it. I am working on trying to build the 32 thru 64 section these days. I wanted an complete set is why I added the 65 thru 2007 section.

It sad to say but us mint made billions of those of copper clad quarters and they will never be worth anything. I would rather save pre 64 silver coins or pre 70 half dollars becides those copper clad quarters.

I guess it had something to do with fed changing those points like they did. I am not happy about silver going down. Last week I bought over 105 dollars face on silver for 1500 with free shiping.

The good thing about buying it was it was free money from ebay and it did not cost me any money . Last monlth ebay gave me an free 1500 dollar credit since in nov of 2007 an person tryed to rip me off over 1200 on buying there penny set. I got an credit for ebay and seller got kicked off from buying and selling on ebay. I never did think ebay would do it and never thought it would happen to me.

I had spend to intire 1500 on something before march 31 2008 or it would expire. I looked for an 1955 double die penny for serval weeks but never found one I could buy . They were all over 1500 or they junk.

So I bought this mans silver lot for 1500 to use credit fast. It had 15 dollars worth morgons , peace dollars, 50 bucks face worth 34 thru 64 quarters , 40 dollars face on 46 thru 64 dimes. Totol it was 1580 melted down on day I bought it at over 20 bucks per ounce.

With silver going down with ebay , paypal fees. How would you sell it since I would like sell it and use the money to buy stuff I want like an mercury dime set , 32 thru 64 quarter book or fill holes in my collection becides just having pile of junk silver I cant use to build sets or anything. I went thru it and I cant build an complete 46 thru 64 dime book or 32 thru 64 quarter book. It flooded with tons 64 onley quarters , dimes. It missing all good dates needed. Its junk silver for sure and some of it should be melted or sold to an refiner to be melted.

To tell you truth I would never bought it but since ebay gave an 1500 credit is why I bought it in the first place.

Anys ideas ? on what to do with it.

I dont what happened to me on buying 5 boxs of halfs this time. I always found silver coins in there or nice proof coins or lots of cool coins. This is worst 5 boxs I ever seen from ever . I never had this happen to me after buying over 20 boxs of them in past.

1. One 1967 silver coin totol after 5000 coins went thru .
2. Tons coins where they marked with red lines, or black mark on ears they ruined marking them. Just like dallas texas coins.
3. 1990, 1979 proof coins found so bad they need to be tossed back.

1. 1 box was fed box dated on feb 16, 2008 . 4 boxs had brinks all over them.

Its looks silver has lefht the system in houston texas just like dallas texas you guys are talking about. There have must been lots guys in houston searching halfs becides me. It an mess and seems all cool coins are gone. It was waste of time on those.

I dont know if should give up yet after going 24 boxs in last year or maybe try another bank and try ordor more and start over again and try to forget about this mess of halfs.

It was my worst ever seen.

Brinks is pulling copper pennys after searching one box from bank and serval guys At realcent forum are geting boxs from bank thats all zinc 83 thru 2008 pennys in box these days.

Finding 1959 thru 1982 copper could be history soon in bank boxs. The us goverment may be trying pull them like in 1968 with silver coins with machices. I read press release in 1968 us mint website, They pulled over 2 billion silver quarters and dimes gave to gsa to sell them bullion.

I think Brinks is already doing it since overnight the boxs went from like 3 to 5 bucks on copper down to nothing. Its looks they doing large scale pulling copper pennys with machices. Its unkown if us mint is telling them to do it or not.

No hope ,

I live in houston texas and bought over 9k last monlth on those halfs. You were talking about marking coins with an red markers. I been geting lots coins with the v red marks on them in my boxs. If its you some of coins you did are Bu or unc coins you marked. I geting piles of them aslong with coins like those marked with an black marker on the ear also on those.

There is no need to mark those coins. Reason is coin wrap inc or bricks sell those coins back to feds and they dump all those bags into an hopper with thousands of coins to be rerolled again. In those boxs with those marked up coins I been finding pre 69 coins of silver, 2002 thru 2007 coin, proof coins in there mixed up with all those marked up coins with red v or black mark on ear.

Eaxmple I bought an Fedbox dated Feb 18, 2008 .
In box I pulled like 6 silver coins, lots marked coins like you were talking about with serval 2002 thru 2007 coins, proof coins. Since Feds or coin wrap mix up coins there is no need to mark coins. I dont see the point on marking them since feds mix up them all up to be rerolled. Like I said they load there machices with thousands of halfs from all banks in banking distract at coin depot to be rerolled again

Same thing has happened with Boxs from Brinks in soulth texas. They are pulling pre 1982 copper from pennys boxs. I have problems finding old pre 81 copper pennys.

The us government could be removing them like they did silver dimes and quarters in 1967 or 1968. They had machices in those days to remove silver coins . In 1968 they were selling to gsa to be sold as silver bullion.

Your goverment could be doing that again with all pre 1982 copper coins like in old days for silver coins. I was luckey I saved over 17500 copper pennys last year before they did it. Its like all brinks boxes these days are all 1982 thru 2008 zinc pennys.

Copper in bank boxs could be history soon.
