Nice overdate. Grade is VF, but not enough details to make EF.

There are subtle differences between the 1920 and 1924 (ODV-003) on the left curved ribbon to tell them apart on a dateless coin.

Remarkable coin. Already at 22K+ bid. I think it has a goodshot at 35K. Thanks for showing that coin.

I agree with a multi-pronged approach for valuing a collection.

I use EBay sold listings, but even there you will see a decent range of sold items priced on the identically-graded coin over the past 2 months. This may have to do with random fluctuations, when an auction ends (3 am is not conducive to snipers in the US, auctions ending on weekends usually have higher sold prices), the seller's feedback history, good clear photos of the coin, and other variables.

I like numismedia too, as many coins I have bought at coin shows, EBay and other sources tend to be pretty close to the value listed in numismedia. Coin World also has a price list in their magazine but they are usually a bit high. I almost never buy a coin at Coin World list prices.

I use the current price of silver and gold for valuing precious metal-containing coins.

I find the Red Book to be a great source of information, but not so great for values of coins and does not get updated enough. I find PCGS and NGC prices are a bit high. I personally feel that ANACs graded coins do not command a high enough price despite being graded properly. ANACs-graded coins tend to be undervalued.

And I use my own experience as a buyer of coins at coin shows or shops. I try to get dealers to come down on more expensive coins and I frequently walk away when they don't come down far enough. But now I have information on the coin's possible sell value. Sometimes I will find the same coin/grade at another dealer at the same show that will come down in price more- may have to do with how much they have in the coin, how eager they are to make sales and other factors. Shopping around at a coin show, rather than picking up the first one you see, is a good strategy to make sure you get the coin for the best price.

Coin shops are hit or miss. Their prices tend to be higher due to overhead, so I don't buy as much from coin shops. I have seen coins at many flea market, antique stores, and thrift stores and they are almost always way overpriced, often higher than a typical coin store. It is rare for me to buy a coin from an antique (or related) store.

I agree with the above on valuing a collection for insurance purposed, versus if you have to sell versus a future estate sale are all different price levels. One should plan for future sale of collection if needed due to financial or medical issues, or because you are getting older and need to thin out or sell out before you pass away. The collector has way more knowledge of value than any family member would.

I'd have to dig for them. I have two, certified, dateless 16 DDOs. At the time, only ANACS would certify them- one was a Fr-2 and the other AG3. The photos prior to certification were posted here on this site many years ago, and are probably archived on this site somewhere. I'll see if I can find the archived posting and attach it.

Where: Bossier Civic Center 620 Benton Rd, Bossier City , LA

In its 61st year, this is the largest coin show in Louisiana. The show features mostly coin dealers from the ARK-LA-TEX region and some from beyond. Dealers will sell bullion to high-end certified coins to complete sets to foreign coins to starter coins to paper money to jewelry to exonumia and much, much more.

The show typically has a total of about 40-45 tables.

Numerous displays sponsored by the Shreveport Coin Club will include: exonumia, Louisiana historical items, Lincoln collection, Eisenhower collection and much more.

There are dealers coming to this show for >25 years. There are also a few stamp dealers and coin supplies will be available at the show.

A specially minted, limited edition copper medal honoring the Shreveport Coin Club's 50th anniversary 11 years ago is still available for sale while dwindling supplies last.

The show admission is $3.00 (12 and under free). Door prizes are awarded hourly. Children receive a free coin at the door. Free parking.

The event is sponsored by the Shreveport Coin Club (a 501(c)3(b) nonprofit organization) and the show is well known for its southern hospitality to dealers and public alike.

No overdate in my opinion. The official 9 would not reach over that far. What may be happening is a die crack possibly seen at the rim at 7 o'clock may be continuing lightly into the date? Or it might be a light scratch from the rim to the date area. Might need to examine at higher magnification and repeat photo posting.

I agree with the others. The doubling of the feathers (nicely shown in Tonyqt's photos) are critical pick up points that can be used to find dateless 16 DDOs still out there in the wild. I scored TWO 16 DDO dateless examples over the years and both are now certified by ANACs.

What a shame! Great VF details on this 67/67. Post mint damage. Some verdigras on the reverse. Nice die crack at 7 o'clock on reverse. I think is is close to EF, but a little too much wear on the diamonds (obverse) to get it. It could very well end up getting netted down to F15 due to the PMD.

1879, 1880 and 1881 are all tough in my opinion. I stopped trying to chase those 3. I suggest proofs are not part of the set even if the album has a hole for it. Varieties also are not part of the main set, but if you can grab or chase a few of the major varieties, it does add more fun to the hunt.

I see 1928 S. 4th digit looks like an 8 as the 6s are shaped differently.

I have some two feather Buffalo nickels, but I agree, they are hard to price. This is probably because the demand is unclear. Certainly, condition matters. That 13S T2 2 feather should fetch a premium because it is so nice. It also depends on what the population is for various date/mint marks for the 2 feathers. Some years/mint marks might be rarer.

Remarkable condition for that 1920 Walking Liberty Half. 104 years old. I don't think it is likely it has been in circulation all this time or it would be more worn. It may be part of a collection dump.

As mentioned, the Friendly Eagle Variety is often overlooked. It would be on the 1971-D, reverse. Look carefully at the eagle's face. Most have an extra line over the eye, making the eagle look angry. The FEV is missing this line, hence the name "friendly eagle".

In a large lot like this, you should have at least 1 FEV, I would think. I have found 13, 4 from Ikes from searching customer dumps at the bank, and 9 from large lots of Ikes.
