Unfortunately, there are so many ways a coin can get damaged that unless you were there when it happened you can never know for sure exactly how.

It was hit heavily on the reverse obliterating the E, I expect the raised areas on the obverse are just an artifact from the damage. Whatever was against or struck the obverse had indentations in it leaving the raised areas.

Unfortunately this coin is fake. On the pointed bust, L on ribbon variety the tip of the bust is quite a distance from the 1 in the date, on the rounded bust no L variety the tip of the bust is close to the 1. Your coin has the pointed bust but it is close to the 1, as the picture adam126402 posted shows . Where did you get the roll? How do you know it hasn't been opened in 80 years? Remember, these vintage looking rolls are still available today and unscrupulous sellers are still putting them together. Ebay is rife with them. If the 1922 no D cents came from the same source I would be cautious about them as well.

It just doesn't look like a 1943 to me at all, the final digit appears to be a 2 or possibly a 7 but not a 3.

Going by the pictures, which are not very good, I'm just seeing die deterioration, plating issues and scratches, nothing of any significance.

If a chunk came off, then it was plated or coated with something. I don't think you did any harm.

Christian Gobrecht designed the braided hair large cents, they are very affordable.

It's damaged. Often called dryer coins because that is a common way they end up like this.

Seems like if they were knowledgeable about coins they would realize that by 1903 the Carson City mint hadn't made coins in 10 years!

Welcome to the forum. I'm not seeing any errors, just a very damaged quarter. I'm not seeing the bumps you mentioned.

Sorry to say your coin is just damaged, the one took a hit from the side pushing the metal over. I realize this may sound farfetched, but you would be surprised how often they show up here. The cause may be from a vending machine, coin counter, or just a random circulation hit.

That would be environmental damage. It has all the earmarks of a clad coin put back into circulation by a metal detectorist. I've put thousands of them back into circulation myself.

I'm pretty sure I see zinc blisters on the obverse. Try another scale with known accuracy.

A lot of coins ended up glued or taped into the old blue coin folders when they started falling out.

There have been war nickels mistakenly struck on regular copper nickel planchets, but there is absolutely no indication that yours is one of them. The color is right for the regular wartime composition.

Just a normal circulated cent with corrosion damage. Might be high F or VF details, but the corrosion kills any grade. You're thinking it's a doubled die? Where do you see any doubling?

What are you talking about misleading people? Everything stated in this post is correct. The nickel you posted is an error type 1 struck on an underweight silver planchet, how does this make anything in the original post incorrect?
