I also buy two sets. It ends up being less expensive, I get them immediately from the mint and I have control over the quality. If a set isn't perfect, it goes back to the mint. When I break them out, I'm really careful not to contaminate them. Others selling individual coins are not as careful. |

jbuck, you're stirring me up. :) My response is that: 1) The mint is currently making enough off of the dimes, quarters, halves and dollar coins to cover their loss on the cents and nickels. 2) The mint will be making more overall with the production of the cent stopping. 3) The cost to produce S mint quarters is barely above that to produce D and P minted quarters that the mint is already profiting on. There's absolutely no need to mark them up multiples of their face value. It's simply a monopoly gouging. They could sell the S mint quarters at face + shipping + credit card fee and would still be raking it in. 4) Just because they can, doesn't mean they should. |

Quote: Will they privatize the US Mint? Scary times. I'd definitely be for that! There's no doubt that a lot of waste is being covered up by the seigniorage.
Quote: What would be a cool thing to do is do W mint marks quarters with a 250 privy and release into circulation in limited amounts similar (exactly) like they did for the 75th anniversary of the end of WW2 in 2020. NO! That is, unless they allow collectors to buy them from the mint as well. I've been buying the quarter sets from the mint for years. Everything was complete up until they did the drop of the W quarters. My loyalty to the mint products got me nothing. Mostly what was accomplished is that a bunch of people with first access to quarters made money. My daughter and I have been searching our quarters since the release. She literally found the only one for us about three weeks ago. The quantity in circulation was far too little to keep young children motivated to find them. Plus, I want uncirculated quarters, not almost uncirculated ones. |

Quote: They just needed to find an equitable way to sell them. If they only manufacture 10% more than the subscriptions, then I think they will have hit the nail on the head. Literally nobody can complain that they were not given an opportunity. Keep in mind that they've published maximum mintages. They don't have to produce that quantity.
For mintages where the demand will exceed the maximum mintage, I think they should allow priority purchasing by those who have purchased the series in the past. |

Quote: someone offering to sell it, he said he was offered 700 for it from 2 different dealers. I still would want to have it looked at before making an offer Now you know you're dealing with a complete fraud. Not only is the coin fake, he's a liar on top of it. |

It came as part of the Explore and Discover set. Since they certified it, it had to have been received in a sealed box by PCGS within 30 days of the set's release. It's a complete waste of money in my opinion, but someone will probably buy it. |
