That's not errors, that's abusive damage from being kicked around a parking lot or something similar. Also known as PMD (post mint damage). Still worth 10 cents, though!

LDS and probable PMD.

All the "3"s in the '38-'39 issues had a short top. Not very attractive IMO. By the time they got to 1943 it looked a lot better.

Slight thickening in motto, I think. We'll need much better exposed photos with higher resolution on the devices in particular and if it is a DDO will need field photos as well to confirm whether or not it's a known minor die.

Is there anything else that's showing doubling or is it only the initials (toward the rim) that jump out at you?

Huh. I wonder why I got zip when I tried to run it. Seems to me PCGS has a box to tick for "holder only" if the coin has problems. No score is better than Damaged or another Details score?

Thanks Spence. My half brain is only half working today.

Edit:

There used to be a Stack's Galleries on W. 57th. Could that have been half of what's now Stack's-Bowers? The signage used is similar. Maybe that's where the seed for this little scam- if that's what this is - originated.

Anybody know if NGC encapsulates "things" without a score, genuine confirmation nor any indication that it's a SAMPLE, or the like? For example, there's this item on the bay, item no. 296464204403. Sorry, have to cut/paste this one.
I tried to run the number but without a score didn't get far. It isn't the only one on offer from this dealer who actually has a fairly positive feedback tally. For all the work they put into it, it's not fooling anybody, so why try to attribute it to a collection? And a piece of the original bag would have been nice.

Thoughts?

Seriously? They're selling this at the same time and day as a solar eclipse? I don't know if that is marketing genius or just a little shady. They could sell gold painted sneakers or . never mind. They better put it in the mint set!

Good eyes, mrwhatsit, it is a Denver issue but by the time I noticed that I'd already named the photos.

I thought just another dryer coin but I thought I'd get a second opinion. Then I weighed it and it's 0.45 g short. What's the point in that? I agree with the herpetologist: it's not very attractive, but I'm going to keep it anyway because I don't have anything like it.

Oh, I bet the English loved that! Someone probably hanged for creating those, using George3 on the "obverse".

There's practically no rim on the bottom half of the reverse? Compared with the obverse, what are the chances this is from wear, not an error in striking?

Could it be a stray bit of metal on the planchet? If it's a die scratch there should be a number of them out there. Anybody have an accumulation (or rolls) of Lowells? Just my Science brain kicking in ...

Regular, "spot-type" impressions suggest reeding or marks made by another coin that has a reeded edge.
