@max, first welcome to CCF. Second, can you please add the diameter and weight of your coin to this thread? That information can be super-helpful in the identification. With regard to the Ayyubid Dynasty, here is a link to a great summary:

@flo, most important is being able to trust the seller. Without that, it doesn't matter how good the coin or price looks. Consider using vcoins rather than eBay as your source for finding sellers of ancient coins.

That said, there is nothing about this coin that screams fake to me. It would be nice to see a pic of the edge, but so far, it looks pretty reasonable to me.

are the wheat cents from the 40's and 50's much more common to find than outside of that?

*Much* more common than wheat cents from the '60s.

Seriously though, I agree that it is a combination of age/wear, preferential saving due to the change in design in 1959, and higher mintages.

Yes sure looks like a letter E, but as @e&v points out, it is just pareidolia.

Also, since best practice is to only start one thread for a coin, you will notice that I've merged your two thread together.

After a bit of a hiatus, I'm back and will do a quick check of my 18th Century coins to see if I can help bump us up from 82% complete. Also, thoughts on trying for a 17th Century version @mmm?

@jds, that is a pretty cool temple token. We see these things posted here periodically and yours looks pretty nice. Here is a numista link to one similar to start you on your research journey:

How's the weight @brand. If a chunk that big fell off the planchet, then I'd expect you could measure it. Otherwise, strike-through seems most likely to me.

I agree that the manufacturer was the Robbins Company. Here is a link to a little more information about this company:

Good eye noticing that medal or initials on Wilson's breast. I wish I could help you with what that actually is, but I don't know.

With that walking staff, I wouldn't be surprised it that wasn't St. Christopher holding the baby Jesus on his shoulder. Looks like bronze due to that green spot, but could be pot metal with a little copper mixed maybe instead. What is the specific gravity?

Hmm not sure that you have a RPM here although there does seem to be some thickening to the north. Have you compared against other known RPM s?

@fra, can you please add a close-up image of the mintmark as I can't see evidence of split serifs or doubling with these overall pics. Thx.

A good question and glad to hear that you are learning. I'm seeing surface staining rather than a mint error though. This might have come from heat or burial in the ground or something else, but didn't happen at the mint.

Not a cud in WE as those by definition must involve the rim, but rather a nice little die chip.
