Just found this in a lot of foreign coins today. Only 17mm.
THE WORLD'S INDUSTRIAL AND COTTON CENTENNIAL EXPOSITION NEW ORLEANS
From Wikipedia
The World Cotton Centennial (also known as the World's Industrial and Cotton Centennial Exposition) was a World's Fair held in New Orleans, Louisiana, United States, in 1884. At a time when nearly one third of all cotton produced in the United States was handled in New Orleans and the city was home to the New Orleans Cotton Exchange, the idea for the fair was first advanced by the Cotton Planters Association. The name "World Cotton Centennial" referred to the earliest-surviving record of export of a shipment of cotton from the U.S. to England in 1784.

Here is another one that we will never know the story for but it's fun the speculate. This is on a 1752 half penny and HMB may stand for ""His Majesty's Bark".

"His Majesty's Bark Endeavour," also known as HMS Endeavour, was a British Royal Navy ship, originally a coal-carrying ship named the Earl of Pembroke, refitted and commissioned for Lieutenant James Cook's first voyage of discovery to Australia and New Zealand from 1769 to 1771. |

Hmm, I was seaching for 1920's Shanghai references to "tuck on" based on SAP's idea and did not find any but I did stumble upon this from the July 19, 1882 Watertown (WI) Republican newspaper.
"An incident happening recently in the Chinese theater on Jackson Street illustrates the celestial mode of "sitting upon" an actor. The members of Tuck on Tong Society visited the theater and hurled cobbles and stones upon the stage."
Could this be a Tong coin, almost like a modern challenge coin. Is there such a thing? |
