How long have you been collecting? I'm about 60 years into the hobby myself and need to get rid of most of my coins as well (except for my Canadian large cents of course ) |

VF with some contamination and dings. The weakness at the 9 is the result of die collapse, and is normal for the late state of the E23a reverse. Unfortunately it keeps you from seeing the re-punching at the bottom of the 9 that you would see strongly in the earlier states. Nice one to add to your collection. |

Those same 2 repunched 5's are in the Whitman Guide Book of Canadian Coins by Jim Haxby. In that book the repunched 5 #1 is the same as page 297 in the 2011 Charlton and repunched 5 #2 is the same as page 298 in the 2011 Charlton. Perhaps they got the numbers from there and reversed them, or just assigned the numbers on their own.
As 1960NYGiants and bosox said, there are a lot of repunched 5's. Identifying the die with the Haxby catalog # is probably the surest way to keep them all straight. Without looking at other markers ( die cracks, etc. ) it's hard to tell some of them apart, especially on lower grade coins. |
