For the final commemorative half dollar hole, I've added a 1936-S Rhode Island that I freed from a PCGS MS-64 slab. I enjoy the design and the history of the Rhode Island half dollar, and the 1936-S is the least common of the three mints. The coin has nice white surfaces in hand.

It's all up to you and what you want to collect. Personally, I only collect business strikes, so I don't consider satin finish coins necessary for my modern sets. If anything, they're a nuisance because I can't rely on mint sets to fill the holes for 2005-2010 coins. For those years I have to buy individual business strikes from eBay or dealers, and that's more difficult than you'd expect. |

Wow is right, what a trip! Fantastic write-up and incredible finds, thanks for sharing!
Quote: "Will Dansco update the #7070 U.S. Type Set album or make foreign albums again?" There are no current plans to update or reprint foreign sets. They focus on the most in-demand items, like update pages and recent mint series such as American Women Quarters. There have been discussions about a volume 2 for the #7070 series, but no immediate plans. A disappointing but expected answer regarding foreign albums. As for the 7070, at this point, it needs a substantial update for the 21st century.
Quote: Are there plans to update their U.S. Commemorative albums?" They have looked into it but have no current plans. Again, disappointing but expected. I can see why maintaining and updating a series with yearly programs would be difficult, but not printing the albums since 2011 is rather baffling.
Quote: "Why are the pages in the #8141 American Women Quarters w/ Proof albums not include slots for S- Proof Silver coins?" Quarter pages always had four slots per row. The creation of S-clad business strike quarters threw a wrench in things. They could not update the slots to five per row. They hoped the #8148 album with proofs would hold the regular proofs, and the #7147 date set album would hold the S Silver Proof. They know they could have better communicated this to the broader coin community. Interesting, I did not expect that explanation. It would have made more sense to put the silver proofs in the 8148 using the standard P-D-S-S format, then print and include one separate page for the S-mint business strikes. I am not a fan of making collectors buy a whole separate album - like they did when they split Jefferson nickels into two albums - when they could combine everything into one. It's more expensive and takes up more space than is necessary. |

Quote: That said, I also don't support the singling out of one US Mint Branch for coin commemoration either. Why not special coins for Philadelphia, Denver, San Francisco, New Orleans, or the others? Each also has a special place in US history - not just Carson City - why not honor them as well? Since we have the 2006 San Francisco Mint commemorative program, I would argue that box has already been opened. Congress should've passed a bicentennial for the Philadelphia Mint in 1993, as I know there was talk for such a program. Throw in a 2003 program for Denver's centennial, a 2020 program for Carson City's 150th, and maybe a 2038 program for the bicentennial of New Orleans, Charlotte, and Dahlonega. If we're still around in 2088, West Point can get a centennial program too. |

Q1 Update!
Quote: 1. Spend more time enjoying and looking at my collection, rather than focusing exclusively on filling holes. Use this time to narrow my collecting focus and figure out what items I'd like to sell, trade, or give away. Given financial constraints, don't begin collecting any additional series. Haven't spent as much time enjoying my collection as I'd like, but I did get several days to work with my coins during winter weather. On a positive note, I decided what sets to focus on and have sold and traded multiple coins. I used that money to invest in other parts of my collection. But I already broke the last part of this goal, because I started a type set of modern commemorative silver dollars.
Quote: 2. Fill at least one hole in each of my Three Cent Nickel, Barber dime, Washington quarter, and Australian shillings sets. I've added one Three Cent Nickel and one Washington quarter. No Barber dimes yet. I've decided to put the Australian shillings on hold, per Goal #1.
Quote: 3. Fill three holes in my Mint Set collection. No progress here.
Quote: 4. Acquire at least 6 modern US coins on my Want List. I've filled at least 6 holes!
Quote: 5. Fill at least three holes in my Dansco 7070. I've filled at least 3 holes!
Quote: 6. Transfer at least half my coins from 2x2s and Mint Sets to Dansco albums. Keep existing inventory up to date with new purchases. I've made good progress on transferring my coins to Dansco albums. I've cut up and transferred all my pre-2011 mint sets and only have my Lincoln cents and Jefferson nickels to move from 2x2s. I'm a little behind on keeping my inventory up to date, but getting close! |

Quote: The mint classifies the approx. 3m annual Kennedy half yearly coin production since 2011 as circulating Actually the website states:
Quote: Coins minted for numismatic bags, rolls, and boxes are produced in the circulating departments of the United States Mints at Philadelphia and Denver, and may be shown in circulating totals. Kennedy half dollars were NIFC from 2002-2020. They were only available through numismatic rolls, bags, and boxes.
