Awesome coins everyone. It's hard to pick my favorites but here are a few. Everyone likes a 43 steel cent with a strike through and other plan error. Believe it or not this was a cherry-pick in a NGC case MS64!
One of my favorite errors a capped die. Early state
I see some annealing issue coins from time to time. This is their godfather. lol
You guys know I like Washington's so I'll finish with a couple of plating errors. This one is the outer clad layer struck off center split after strike.
I've posted this one. It is the only quarter that I have seen a missing clad layer after strike. Supposedly these are somewhere around 400 times more rare than a normal split plan quarter.
Thanks everyone. I will keep you posted. Also greasy fingers there's one nick on the cheek. That is the only distraction imo. Here's a pic minus the glare, luster.
I just pulled this one out of a Littleton book. It was the only reason I purchased the book but it did include a couple other nice coins. A gem 41P and a 46S DDO-001 RPM-003. You can see this coin from across the room it is so lustrous. I have a few silver MS67 and this coin has leaps and bounds more eye appeal. Thanks for looking everyone. You can throw a grade guess in if you like. I'd like to call it at least a 67 and will submit it soon!
Thanks Vor. IMO they did a decent job on the label. I purchased this coin and one other from the same person. The other an awesome piece in its own right. https://www.pcgs.com/cert/45956368 Here's the full holder pic.
That is an awesome DDO but like errers said it's seen some abuse. I was flipping through some Lincolns recently and they all looked like that. It was discouraging. I was digging through my coins and realized I have one of these myself!
That Kennedy is very nice and hard to come by! Vor here's one of my oddities. I bet you know more about this one than I do. https://www.pcgs.com/cert/45956366
Thanks guys. I feel like this is one of those coins that gets a gold CAC sticker. IMO the only reason it isn't a 66 or higher was the greasy strike. It is a 9/10 in hand.
Here's my story on this one. These are easy to find in MS condition. Probably the most used die in that run, so they aren't worth a huge premium. For that reason I wasn't in a hurry to purchase one. This coin came up less than book value with incredible rainbow toning and a striking error of some kind. Thanks for looking and check out the weakness in the strike. It's on the obverse and reverse. Not sure if it's grease or something with the strike. The plate coin on VV has the same effect. https://varietyvista.com/09a%20WQ%2...0SDDO001.htm
You are looking too far into this imo. I have done a little bit of research on these and know several people who have examples of this die. It just isn't very well known.
This is a coin for your collection! And an awesome one at that. Maybe one day it will be a better known variety and have an actual book value. You could possibly get ANACS to certify it but it may be a details coin.
Thanks Bats. 45S. I do have the 42 as well. Hey I just got this in. Not going to post it but definitely up your alley. I bought it raw. Another grade that I was shocked by. https://www.pcgs.com/cert/51022908
