just thinking out loud:

gold has been bouncing around generally between $3200-$3400 since it poked up toward $3500 not long ago. if it's going to continue bouncing around in between those numbers, basically doing the sideways shuffle, I think I had better turn in what street monies I have and nab a bit of gold before it takes off again. I already have enough street coin & cash to make a conversion. I might be sorry if I wait until black friday. it's 29 weeks away. a lot could happen in 29 weeks. heck, the upcoming 2-4 weeks have me concerned.

additionally, I'm hatching a plan to recover $600 of gift money that was given to me months ago; I was going to use that money to put toward gold, but I had an 'emergency' and had to use it elsewhere. I really wasn't happy about that and I vowed to recover it at some point. I am nearly at that point now. I want to turn in my street funds and my recovered gift money very soon. the sooner the better. gold isn't going to continue the sideways shuffle for 29 weeks and I may regret not jumping on it soon. I ought not wait.

I just love cats. I'm going to obtain a better food for them. lately I've been chopping up hot dogs and adding the bits to their canned food. the hot dogs are all-beef, the leftovers from the hot dog stand grill each friday & saturday night. i'll eventually work into handing out better stuff for them, and stop giving them the bigger name-brands. their lifespans are not long to begin with, I don't need to contribute to that. live long and prosper. make lots of kittens.

there's more rain in the area tonight. we had a brief blast already this evening, so I'm looking to dodge the rain again tonight. it may be too wet outside to bother with pickin' later.

wow, what a curious little stash of coins. an interesting find for sure, SquareCircle. I'm pretty sure I have a LWC or two that resembles your '23-S in my LWC folder.

we had overnight rain, some of it was pretty heavy. there was no time for pickin' last night. I had a brief window of time to get out to feed the kitties, so that's all I did, and I was delayed by over an hour waiting for the rain to back off so that I could do it. I got a little wet, but not too much. I was just glad to have found all the cats and get back home before it started coming down again.

lately it's been the way it used to be: plentiful change and occasional FRNs. it's hard to understand sometimes. with inflation being terrible you'd think i'd be finding less and less instead of more. I'm grateful for the handfuls of change I bring home each night, plus all the food & beverages. the jar is filling quickly again.

after lengths of time go by and I don't find one in the place where I find them the most, I start getting paranoid, wondering if someone else has caught on. I don't think anyone has. I think it is still my little secret.

i had to be patient with tonight's hunt. I had ridden through most of the route, fed all the kitties, but only had about thirty-four cents in my pocket. I was about to call it a night and go home without finishing the route, but then I scored an unopened gallon jug of distilled water in the winn-dixie parking lot. someone left it in a shopping cart. that find changed my mind and I continued on with the end of the route (for now that jug will sit with the rest of my hurricane/emergency water).

good thing I changed my mind. I scored some coins as I was leaving that parking lot, which bumped the total up to sixty-eight cents, and then my next stop would be the gas station where my favorite ice machine is. it's coin return hadn't produced much in the past several months, but tonight it kicked out 8 quarters:

worthy of the dancing apple.

i picked up a little bit more along the way home for a total of $2.94 on the night; ooooo, how close I came to a $3 night...

edit, a little while later:

tonight's pickins makes two consecutive $2+ nights, and it's my third night this week & month of at least $2 found. I've picked about $12 over eight nights.

i scored that wild buck right after I fed the same kitty that I fed sunday night when I picked the last wild buck. that was my first pick of the night and I went on to find an additional five quarters and eight zincolns.

$2.33 on the night, my second $2 night this week and this month. I've been wondering if may would be on par with april; it's off to a decent start.

spot gold price has surpassed the total amount of money I've picked off the streets over 7 years.

when I started doing this, gold was around $1200-$1300/oz.

free munchies are great. I doubt there will be too much 'free food' in the weeks and months ahead. at some point I expect the street money to dry up and disappear. it was great while it lasted. I hope that I can finish one more cycle.

tonight was very fortuitous, from a cash standpoint and a food standpoint.

most importantly, I scratched up $1.83 in well-scattered change, including a nice forty-seven-cent coin spill near the winn-dixie:

but I also discovered that some really kind people left some munchies for me tonight in two similar locations:

munchie score #1- just before riding out of the winn-dixie parking lot I found an unopened package of two cherry turnovers from the winn-dixie bakery on a window ledge just outside the building's entrance doors.

munchie score #2- a little while later I was biking through the publix parking lot and discovered an unopened package of two vanilla-frosted cinnamon swirl buns from the publix bakery on a window ledge near the building's entrance doors. I munched one of those as soon as I returned to my apartment.

total providence.

I took an up-close pic of those initials, I just remembered, after I read-up on it:

i thought it most resembled the A variety.

i concur. thanks, NumisRob.

last night I picked $1.27, all well-scattered change.

tonight I picked exactly $2.00, one dollar of it was the usual well-scattered coins, the other dollar was a wild buck, trying to conceal itself amid trash and leaves:

serious kitty karma tonight. I spotted that buck as I was parking my bike to feed a kitty.

tonight I also picked a 2020 2-cent euro from Spain, pix to come. I'm not sure where I picked it from. I probably thought it was a zincoln.

I haven't looked into them too far, although I notice that florida has joined the other several goldback-issuing states; goldbacks are a 'voluntary local currency', that's from their website. I applied for a free 1/2000 ozt goldback. they tell me it has shipped and will be a few weeks. so I wait.

i have no desire at this time to stack or collect goldbacks. I'm old school. I like my gold coins.

I just read through this thread, reading about everyone's preferred method/s of stacking gold. I like the forklift & vertical methods.

Stay away from Goldbacks too.

...why? why avoid goldbacks?

i was going to start a new thread, asking for opinions about goldbacks, but I found it mentioned in this thread, so this thread gets a bump because of my question..

my usual method is to simply purchase it with the money I earn. I also rely on $treet $timulu$ for the occasional assist. I like bullion bars and bullion coins, typically smaller weights/denominations.

yep.. I'm already a scoping-out potential stuff for the street money conversion later this year. 30 weeks and a couple days until black friday (november 28), which encompasses nearly the entirety of the atlantic hurricane season (june 1 to november 30). here's hoping I can salvage another $150-$200 in street finds over these next 30 weeks. there's just no telling what the PM prices will be by then.

wednesday afternoon I dumped the jar. I rolled up $78 in found change and added it to the existing pile of street cash and rolls of street coins; the pile has swollen to $195. that's a little bit under half of the current cost of a 1/10 ounce gold eagle, depending on the date.

wednesday night, the last night of the month, I picked $1.06 in well-scattered change, plus I found a 2002 canadian dime and a 2012 canadian nickel. pretty decent haul for the 17th night- and 3rd consecutive night- of $1+.

now on to may.

here's that 10 cent italian euro coin I mentioned a few posts ago:

it's well-circulated, a little road rashed on each side, and has some black kosmik krud on the 10 euro cent side. funny- this is my second euro score since we mentioned euro coins several posts ago. anyone familiar with the different types of this particular coin? I see some pretty ridiculous numbers on ebay and etsy for these.

oh yeah.. i'd be okay with $1.40 every day.

yesterday's total ended up being $14.03

even better! that's funny, DiscoLover82, you picked a speck over exactly 10x more than I did! way to go! I had my $11+ night for the month about ten days ago, I doubt it'll happen again this month, as there's only tonight left in april... but you never know...

ugh, here comes summer... swampy, steamy, no breeze, lotta bugs, storms... I predict a quiet storm season for us. no storms, just money.
