Definitely a DDO. FS-101 is the closest comparison. Reverse is only Longacre doubling.

Thank you for all your opinions, very much appreciated. I will definitely take a closer look when the coin arrives. I didn't really think I would win this lot, as I only placed the opening bid. There were only a few US lots in this mostly ancient and medieval
e-auction.

6.47g. 20mm, Near XF. Scarce.
Mint: Taras, Calabria (modern day Taranto, Italy).

O:Nude youth on horseback EY on upper left, below, ΑΠΟΛΛΩ above two amphorae.

R:Phalanthos riding dolphin and holding kantharos and long trident. ΤΑΡΑΣ below. ΘΙ, to left, B, to right.

HN Italy #1010, Vlasto 764, HGCI 884 N#416960.

I just purchased this lot. The reverse is slightly off-center, but this coin has great old cabinet toning with some iridescence. Any thoughts?

I just purchased this dollar via auction for $475.00. The coin does have a hit on Washington's cheek. The coin was offered on a mostly ancient auction. Graded Good XF, AU in US standards. I appreciate all of your opinions.

Struck-Jan 98 AD, 18mm, 3.52g, 6h. Rome mint. EF.

RIC II 44; RSC 91; BMC 64.

O: IMP NERVA CAES AUG GERM P M TR P II
Laureate head of Nerva right.
R: IMP II COS IIII P P
Aequitas, standing left, holding scales and cornucopiae.

Nerva assumed consulship for the fourth time on January 1, 98 AD. At some point during the day, after the inaugurations and ceremonies were complete, Nerva suffered a severe stroke during a private meeting. He died several weeks later on January 27, 98 AD.

This purchase completes my five "good" emperors set.
What a pronounced nose and Adam's apple!

@travel coin: I think you mean Finn235 maybe. I've seen his handle come up in many ancient threads.

The auction was very active and competitive. The denarius set me back more than I would have liked, but I am happy with the purchase as it had mostly full legends and only had a couple of minor old scratches on the reverse.

My denarius is not yet in hand, but knowing that I'm that much closer to completing my 12 Caesars (in silver denarii) set is satisfying. Only Caligula, Claudius and Otho to go!

Thank you, Spence, tdziemia and samoth for all your knowledge, insight, references and suggestions. I appreciate that, and yes, samoth, I think that I'll get the book (second edition), although it's pretty pricey!

This is my most recent purchase via an e-auction.

On the holder, it is indicated that there is a date error (recut 8, 8/7)? Also, on the manila holder, it was attibuted as Frey 181, Levinson II-32, which I believe to be incorrect (possibly from Frey's first edition?). It looks to be an old attribution from the 50s or 60s. Grade: good Very Fine.

According to medievalcoins.com there were 2.9 million coins produced of the Lev. II-34 type. I find this incredulous! Did they keep mintage records way back then and how many are extant today?

Any thoughts?

Maybe try and take a different picture under different lighting. To me it just doesn't look like reeded contact marks.
