It could be result of exposure to some chemicals.
Some years ago I did a study on how coin cleaning affects the surface and the color of copper coins.
The coin in the photo looks the same color as after being dipped into a common polisher named "Brasso" which is ammonia based
Short exposure to ammonia (no rubbing!) gives copper (bronze, to be accurate) cents the color of an old brass.

@New1954. Was there an official announcement that there will be no new 2023 coins for circulation this year?
I've seen a message that there will be no circulation coins with Queen's effigy in 2023, but it did not say anything about all circulation coins

I have 2016 Charlton and I have no incentive to buy a newer revision.
For proof one cents it lists very little info except some absurd prices.
From the set's specification
1 cent: Composition - 99.9% Cu, Weight 2.50 g, Diameter 19.10 mm, Edge - Plain
Mintage (sold) - 63562.
This is a common coin, since many of 2005 sets were broken to get the gold-plated dollar.

2005 1 cent Proof is coming from the double-dollar proof set.
It is listed in Charlton Vol.2 at the very beginning of One Cent section.
The coin is copper (non-magnetic), not zinc.

There is 2014 SML without radial lines. It is the "Replica SML" with reverse-proof finish, no radial lines, no security mark. It is common.
The rare one, which is listed in Charlton, has the security mark but no radial lines.
I think I saw one for sale in "Early Releases" holder, but at that time I did not pay full attention, so I am not sure.
I've been looking for 2013 SML with security mark for a long time and I have not seen one for sale.
I've never heard about 2013 with radial lines.

It is worth 1 cent. More accurately - zero, because you cannot use it to pay for something and the metal content (steel) is < 1 cent as well

I believe the golden color is intentional. There are 3 other coins packed in gold-colored resin - 25c in Petro-Canada cards for Men's and Women's hockey and Cindy Klassen.
As for the overall use of resin packaged coins, here are my stats:
22 credit card format - 1999 - 2 (25c), 2000 - 17 (25c - 14, 50c, $1, $2), 2001 - 3 (50c, $1, $2)
10 bookmarks - 2005 (25c Poppy), 2006 (25c Pink Ribbon, 1$ Lucky Loonie proof), 2008 (25c poppy), 6 Olympic (25c)
16 Petro-Canada cards (colored 25c)
12 Mascot cards - colored 35mm 50c

22 coins exist only in the resin packaged form - no other sources

There seems to be something spreading on my '87 and '90 proof loons.

I checked my Loons and I can see the same effect (not to the same extent, though) on coins from 1998 to 1991. It seems to affect SP and Proof only. I do not see it on any of my MS or PL.
I also checked same years in original SP sets - no problem there.
My guess it was another mint's experiment with coin washing. Something on the coin is reacting with mylar in 2x2.

There is a way to differentiate between O and W 1997 Loons. Coins from Ottawa sets (and from Tiny Treasures set) are similar to 1996 with almost but not quite SP look.
They have flat even rims, sharp legend, slightly frosted crown, and a satin background.
Winnipeg coins are of lower quality in general. A large number of Winnipeg sets contain coins (not just Loonie) that do not have PL characteristics.
They look like a common business strike with sloping uneven rims and rounded letters in the legend. It is NBU with circulation finish.
I guess, Winnipeg mint did not have capacity to produce PL coins and made a shortcut utilizing business strike technology.

I see that ebay charges GST+PST on bullion items. Is it because a seller did not create a tax exempt listing or because ebay does not provide such an option?
If it is the latter, there is a potential violation of tax laws. Pure precious metals are GST/HST exempt, PST rules are complicated, but there should not be PST on bullion.
Looks like the buyer is paying an extra tax without a way to claim it back.

I think 2006P non-magnetic is a true planchet error. Maybe it was some leftovers in the press feeder or (un)intentional toss. Imo, it is quite rare.
2006 (no logo, no P) is scarce but not really difficult to find in AU50 to MS63 grades.
I do not think 2006P magnetic was issued into circulation as business strikes, but there are many (~233000) with *circulation finish* coming in various sets.
Some from broken sets may have even entered circulation.
2006 Logo magnetic has 2 varieties, because there are different obverses for business strikes and for PL coins.
And, for sake of completeness, there is 2006 no P no logo Bronze in Proof finish.

The bottom serifs are not flat on (all?) 2021 Loonies. Though usually the arch is not that visible.
2 guesses: either it is from a fresh die or you found the right angle for the close-up photo.
I think it is the latter because the arch is hardly visible on the full photo.

This thread has triggered a question that I wanted to ask for a long time :)
I know of 3 varieties of 2001 5 cent coin
2001 without P (which has its own font) and was issued in Business Strike and as Silver Proof
2001 P with round 0 (or small date) which is available in BS, PL, and SP.
2001 P with oval 0 (or large date) which is available in PL and SP.

Was 2001P oval 0 ever issued as a business strike?
Is 2001P oval 0 PL available from Oh Canada sets or it is only from Uncirculated/PL sets?

Quote: "multiple accounts/addresses tactic also worked"

There is a bit of a problem with this logic.
If it was a "regular" limitation like the limit on circulation packs, then yes, it would work.
But this is *MC exclusive*. All your friends and relatives have to be at a high MC tier.
And it is not only the official dealers who are getting these coins in quantities.
Some ebay seller also have more than the "limit".

@spp-ottawa 1975 - the detached jewel is only found on PL strikes
I am a bit confused. I've been hunting 1975 $1 DJ business strike for a while
because it is listed in the standard Charlton as well as in nickel dollar section in 67th ed. - 1975 obv.-002
spp-ottawa, what caused the change in your view of that variety?
