Seems spacing inside the "U's is to narrow for this drop? I'm going to stick with the "O". Still just MHO and it's still a cool find. If you do the acetone let us know how that goes.

Cool find! I would agree with -makecents- and Dearborn. Appears to be raised material from die strike of which ever letter was dropped. I wouldn't think an acetone bath would have any effect and hopefully will get rid of the "gunk". IMHO

@wes,I expect you have seen these and the others on ebay. The last one is by a company called Birks according to the listing. All are similar, but none exactly like yours?

What If We Ignored Grading Altogether?

When I started collecting, my mentor told me "grading is very subjective" and "buy the coin ,not the holder". I try to remember that when bidding on or purchasing slabbed coins. IMHO the TPGs grades have become" Very Subjective", from the Sheldon scale, which I was told was the holy grail of grading. It seems to me that a lot of bidders seem to have more money than sense. I guess it is on each of us to make the final bid or offer? It's all about the money, which ever side of the coin your on. (IMHO)

OT question for all. Is the Obverse off enough to be considered "Off Center"?

I would agree with Dearborn's description. It's another tortured coin.
Also, that is a cool perch under it. Pretty small gear!

I still can't see the 1874 pics? Could you give advise as to my problem? Apparently @ andyg is having the same problem.

Thanks
