Nothing outstanding but a new addition to my Zimbabwean hyper-inflation series.

It just makes me think where the (low-end) dealers here in Thailand, who call in on me, get these from.

Today's acquisition. Nicaragua 200 Cordobas. Dated 2007 (issued 2012) with opaque 200 on see-through window on right. The hat worn in the left-hand window changes colour on tilting and the bird on the reverse I adore (a new addition to the menagerie).

Can't match your shopping expedition Dave but from my recent trip to Oz:

And finally a good old ten bob. These were withdrawn at decimalization and before I started collecting:

My wife and I have just returned from a trip to Melbourne, Australia. Whilst there I bought a few commemorative coins (well actually more than a few).

Here is our favourite of the lot:

Generally my wife does not take a great deal of interest in my collecting but when we visited the Melbourne Museum lo and behold there was the mounted hide of the Australian legend.

Now my wife takes an interest and although the original name suggested was 'farlap' (a Zhuang-Chinese word for 'lightning') the trainer changed it to Phar Lap which, coincidentally, in Thai also means 'lightning'.

Because my wife was born in the Chinese Year of the Horse I am losing a coin but my wife is gaining a lucky charm/locket (a very superstitious lot these Thais). Well at least I have the picture:

There's a 'complete list of Zimbabwe banknotes' site that comes up on google. I would show the website address but I don't know if that one is allowed here.

I would nominate the Irish Euro cents and Euros. The same old harp on all the denominations (excluding the odd commemoratives). Repetitive and uninspiring.

South Russia - High Command of the Armed Forces.

10,000 Rubley catalog ref Printed on both sides S425a, printed front only S425c.

I would say they were block (batch) numbers rather than serial numbers.

Look genuine to me.

Indeed 1996 to celebrate the golden anniversary of the King's accession. You have the 1 baht and they are fairly commonly found in change out here.

If you just want to clean them up (having no value other than melt) try baking soda (bicarbonate of soda). A teaspoon full, a few drops of water to make a paste and then rub that on the coins.

Any chance of the reverse images?

I would guess that the notes featured and the links are modern reproductions rather than counterfeits.

The original ones don't have the large red overprints to the left and right on the face or the 'serial' numbers on the reverse.

It's actually dated 1358 (1979) at the right hand side of the line just above the signatures. Yours is the second signature variety (catalog ref. P#57a(2).

These were demonetized in 2002 when the Afghani was revalued 1,000 Afghani to 1 new Afghani. Worth about $1 in unc.
