Next year the mint will no longer make cents so will that drive the prices of error coins up higher?

It has all of the looks of a coin that has lain on a wet surface. It's just stained - probably permanently.

If you look at the close up you can see its actually indented a little. Someone used a hammer on it or it was by the mint somehow. The indentation looks almost octagonal

No, they didn't. Many companies took quarters and gold plated them and sold them in sets. They also did this with platinum. (no connection to the US Mints and they were hardly limited production)

I thought it was illegal for anyone other than the mint to modify currency?

No. the BEP likes their employees to be ignorant of how certain notes are more collectable/desirable/valuable than others. Anyone who's a collector is unlikely to be hired by them. There is no legal mechanism by which an employee at the BEP can simply swap out a note in their pocket for a freshly printed note. And anyone found actually stealing a note from the unissued note stockpile would have all of the books thrown at them.

Thats very nice to know, thank you for that information. Thats exactly what I thought was going on and I'm so glad I was wrong.

Ive never came across or even came close to finding a solid serial number. Do employees at the mint watch for these bills and snag them or does the mint keep them and auction them off? This next question is probably stupid to ask but....Do they actually get put into circulation?

I found a 1929 $2 bill in perfect condition, it looked brand new. I accidently put it in a vending machine and when I hit the return lever it popped out 4 quarters. I never saw it again

I had a 2 headed quarter that came with my magic kit when I was a kid and I put it in a vending machine HaHa I was 9 yrs old. There was a guy who ran the u.s. mint years ago that died. When his safety deposit box was given to his kids all it had in it was 5 two headed quarters. Its supposedly impossible to happen during the minting process but those 5 quarters were listed as genuine

Why is it that we don't see doubling on the reverse of cents as prominent as it is on the 1955 or 1969 S obverse? Id like to be able to see doubling on the reverse without a jewelers eye just once

It looks like during the minting process another nickel fell on top of this one somehow and smushed the head flat. You can see a date of a coin by the head. If this even happened at the mint, it could also be people messing around with coins and kilns

Here's another interesting error that I ran across that I have a hard time explaining other than being intentionally made

It was stamped by a 1972 cent, it would be awesome if it was a 1972 DDO that got stamped twice.

If someone at the mint intentionally makes error coins will that decrease the coins value compared to if it had been accidental? I know that proving such a thing is impossible, I'm just curious if you guys would think less of the coin or not

I heard a story about the mint that produced these coins. The had a cigarette vending machine where packs cost 48 cents but since the machine couldnt give change they placed 2 pennies in the pack of cigarettes. On the day the DDO was struck the 2 pennies placed in each pack were all 1955 DDO

You can see the feint outline of the V and the bottom part of the D barely. I don't see any B from the photos
