Glad I come across this thread. I can say a few things about the Grand Bazaar. We don't shop for anything from there. It's highly, if not entirely, touristic. It's a nice, historical marketplace but items for sale are often far more expensive and touristy compared to local shops. I had a Swedish friend o who was surprised when he realized Turkish people do not drink apple tea, which is sold in almost every stall labeled ad "traditional" in the Grand Bazaar.

There are some offices of low to mid level auction houses in the Bazaar. Nowadays the business is almost entirely done online but they surely have some coins for sale. What kind of coins you are looking for? Anything older than 1839 might be a challenge as you need some papers (such as a license of ownewship a receipt) to take them out of the country. Anything ancient roman or greek, its almost impossible to buy or take out of country for tourists.

If you send me a pm, I can check if there are some shops you can visit. Also happy to give advice if you ever need some. Istanbul is a magnificent city to visit. I hope you enjoy it.

Guys I agree with you. Any flaw largely reduces the eye appeal of a proof coin. However I have a thing for half crowns and I don't have this one. I'm tempted to throw a £20 bid on it and with taxes and buyers premium, it will cost me a £22 if I win. Not a good investment but still not too much of an amount to worry about, I think

The coin on my post is not graded. It has some unattractive looking small scratches on the lower side of King George's cheek. But still it has a nice overall appearance and condition. I'll bid some to see what happens. Everyone, thank you very much for your comments

Dear everyone,

This half crown is up for sale in a local auction house. Yheew already care 15 bidders and its ten days until the auction is over. What do you think about it? How much do you think is a fair price to this coin? I am thinking of bidding on it.

As much as I can see, the coin is practically as struck, (PaS) meaning uncirculated with lots of lustre, in the British grading system.

Circulated with VF-35 perhaps 40 on a sunny day. British a tiny tad lower than aVF or a high Fine +. This is just my own untrained opinion though.

I think on British terms they are both aVF, almost very fine coins. In Sheldon grading, they should be somewhere slightly lower than VF40. In any way, they're quite common in those grades.

I agree with Hogart. The coin seems to be struck on a defective blank. For a variety or error collector, it should be worth something. However I know British collectors aren't much interested to error coins at least as much as American collectors

My uneducated guess is its coming from a very worn die. Details on the coin, specially the IRB below of the bust tells me it's struck with a legit die, although an overly worn one. The edge bordering of the coin seems to be too well aligned for it to be a cast fake. However that's my opinion and I haven't seen any 50p in circulation in 2018. (Because I don't live in the UK). In any way I think that's a keeper.

And all the others who mailed me something. I thank you all very much for that. I do not mind if I receive them or not. It is the thought that matters. I consider they are received and I got much more than I deserved. Recently, we are going through some very dark times here. Much to be said about the earthquake but here is not the place for doing that. I hope you all had some lovely Christmasses and wish all of you a happy, healthy 2023. Best wishes from halfway around the world.

And finally a nice book with two pretty bills inside! Thank you a bunch @Half for those and for paying a $60 fortune for mailing those to me! I knew about star notes of the US, but never had one before! The older dollar note is in great condition. A nice addition to my world items folder.

These are very generous gifts from @Jimjumper. First 2022 US coins I ever see om hand! I like half dollars in US currency. The banknotes are from Turkey, one is a late 1950s 2 1/2 Lira, and the other is a wartime Ottoman quarter lira. Beautiful coins and currency.

The 1970s stamped coin sets, I never seen any of those before. Acmonital 1970s Turkish coins are relatively hard to come by as they had seen a lot of circulation back then.

Dear everyone,

I'm back home now and spent my evening opening up some beautiful gifts that was sent to me. I got much more than I did ever deserve this year. I would like to say thanks to rggoodie, Santa, and to all of you guys who spent time, money and efforts to send me something. Please do not do that again as I'm embarrassed towards the community this year. My culture here says we should give back as much as we take from the community. Not that people care for those kind of customs anymore but I"m one that cares.

So far this year I received five packages. All were tracked mail. Unfortunately I haven't yet to receive anything untracked. I apologise on behalf of the recently privatized (sold to a private company) Turkish postal services. I knew they were inadequate to a degree but this year they proved to be a total losers.

I will post pictures one by one. Those are lovely coins, a card and a banknote from @Carrigna. Thank you so much,!

Dear @Half and @Jimjumper, your packages are picked up from the post office.I thank you very much. If Santa can keep the thread open for some more time I'll post pictures when I am back. I already have one another from @Carrigna and really guys, I didn't deserve that much. Santa really made both happy and embarrassed towards the community this year.

Dear everyone,

Thank you very much for all those who sent me something. I also thank you for your concern and condolences regarding the recent earthquake in my country. It is a very dark time for Turkey now. God bless you guys.

I'll just put a quick update asking if people can PM me the tracking numbers of packages that are held at the post office in Turkey. I will ask someone to go and pick those up for me as after a while they will be sent back to the senders.

I will thank everyone later in a more proper way, once I am back home, regardless of I receive their gifts of not.
