1903-O Morgan Dollar

The other day I decided to take a stroll through a pawn shop in a town that I was visiting to see family and they had a pretty neat looking lot of cull Morgan Dollars there for $25 each that I swiftly picked up.
After going through them after I got home, I discovered that one of them is a fairly desirable key date that goes for a couple hundred even in cull condition!!!

I think that the coin is good enough for a VG08 or a VG10 but the reverse has some pretty significant damage that might hold it back from straight grading.
What do you think? Worth grading?

I have thought about maybe submitting it to CAC too.
But the problem with the CAC gold stickers is that they aren't too clear as to how much better the coin looks grade-wise.
It could be good as if it's a 55 but in my eyes it looks like a 58. It's too vague.
Is CAC even going to put stickers on holders anymore as soon as they start slabbing coins? I don't even know. I'm not even planning on submitting anything anytime soon until I get a big enough group of coins together that I feel as if I can justify sending in to cover the cost.

I recently acquired this 1857-O Seated Liberty Half Dollar in AU53 for around $700 and I bought it because I think that it's severely undergraded for what it is.
The reverse genuinely looks mint state to me. The only thing that I think is holding the coin back is that the fields on the Obverse have alot of chatter to them.
I think that it has a solid shot at AU58, what do you think?

I'm not too sure about the cleaning part.

I see no obvious hairlines that indicate that its been cleaned.

You can find plenty of other VF graded dollars that straight graded with this general look to them that probably have table marks on them from being slid across a table at one point but in no way is it related to cleaning.

VF35?
hmm, Interesting.
Not too sure if I agree with the obverse damage. I think what you perceive to be damage is a small group of dings in her hairlocks that the lighting make it out to be much worst than in person.
Im pretty confident that it has the potential to straight grade.

I recently picked up this raw 1921 Peace Dollar for around $150 and I think that the coin is good enough to justify sending it in for grading.
I think that the coin is good enough for a VF30 grade but what do you think?

I picked this Lincoln cent out of some pocket change and I noticed that it had this weird kind of error on the obverse and I was hoping that anyone here knew what this is?

My most recent CRH find and I've never seen a penny with a rotated die clash before.

Any thoughts?
Does this kind of error have any value to it even though it's been heavily circulated?

I recently took stroll through through an antique store that's local to me and I managed to pick up this 1889-CC Morgan for $800.

I think that the coin is good enough for a F12 grade if I send it to PCGS but I fear that it might come back a VG10 due to the lack if detail in the cotton blossoms.

Any thoughts?

Here's a side pic so there's a better understanding of what I'm talking about.
(It continues all the way around the edge of the entire coin)

I recently bought this Alexander the Great Tetradrachm off a local dealer of mine and I'm not sure if I still want to keep it or not.

First of all this coin looked absolutely stunning when I saw it and I knew that I wanted it when I first saw it (WOW).

But after examining this coin in person for a while after I bought it, I realized that the edge filing was alot worse then what was originally shown in the photos.

The entire edge all the way around the coin has been perfectly squared off possibly with a modern angle grinder of some sorts. This coin at one point was used probably in a jewelry piece of some sorts where it must of had to fit perfectly round inside of a bezel and made into a necklace.

Im just making this post knowing whether or not this kind of thing is common in the market or not and if collectors would really call this kind of thing a dealbreaker or not if they where interested in the coin.

When I first saw the coin listed, it had 16 watchers on Ebay. (16 WATCHERS!!!!) And I had an urge to snag it as soon as I possibly could.

Now that I'm reconsidering my purchase and wondering if I should go and get my money back or not, I fear that If I do actually return the coin that the dealer would turn right back around and sell it to someone who will happily pay their full asking price for it even with how bad the edge filing is. (

Sorry for the lack of photos of the edges but it's the best I have at the moment. (I PAID $350 FOR IT)

What do you mean, I see that the obverse looks slightly rotated counter clockwise within the holder by looking at the "IN GOD WE TRVST" but even if the obverse was completely centered within the holder, that would still offset the reverse be like another degree or two in the clockwise direction? I thought the fact that the coin has been already graded would give people a better understanding of what I'm talking about?

I bought this Peace Dollar online seeing from pics that it has a rotated reverse die.
As soon as I got it in the mail earlier this week, I tried to see if I can measure the rotation with a protractor in person and closer saw that the reverse has a 15-ish degree rotation in the clockwise direction.
Is this kind of error that common?
Does it add any sort of premium over the coin?
Should I consider getting it regraded?

Thinking About This For A While: TPG Population Report On Morgan Dollars

Are these any websites out there that provide accurate statistical data on how many of each Date Morgan Dollar are still out there in existence that aren't the PCGS and NGC Population reports? Because I'm trying to figure out if what I'm thinking is too good to be true or not.

If you look at the PCGS Population reports of these dates:
-1879-S
-1880-S
-1881-S
-1883-O
-1884-O
-1885-O
-1886-P
-1887-P
-1904-O
-1921-P

You will find that these dates have a Population count of well over 100,000 graded examples (And that's just for PCGS alone) And if I were to try to buy any one of these dates already graded in MS64, I would pay roughly in the $120-$180 price range.

Everything sounds normal so far, right?
Well it was for a while until I realized that there are plenty of other examples of other dates out there that go for almost the same amount of money as the common dates that I listed above but have drastically lower population counts lower than 100,000. I'm talking well under 100,000 and approximately around the 20,000 mark instead. (And if you don't believe me you can look this up on the PCGS website)
-1880-P
-1881-P
-1882-P
-1882-O
-1884-P
-1890-P
-1897-P
-1898-P
-1903-P

Could it be possible that these dates in graded MS condition are real sleepers that have potential to increase in numismatic value in the future due to them not being as common as the market originally perceives them to be?
Is there something I'm missing here? I know that most of these dates are Philadelphia's and they minted alot more Philadelphia's than they did at SF or New Orleans, but I'm pretty sure that well over a century of circulation and also being subject to the Pittman act would cause them to be just as scarce (if not more) as the rest of the common date Morgan dollars, right?

It looks too scuffed up on the face for it to be a 64 so I thought I would ask for any other opinions.

I bought this MS64 random date Peace Dollar off Apmex for $70 and I received an example with some pretty unattractive toning on the obverse, should I consider returning it to get my money back or keep it?
Does unattractive toning like this hurt the value of the coin causing it to be less valuable even though it's an MS64 compared to a blast white example?

@Spence Unfortunately, this coin isn't in my possession anymore. It's with my LCS getting ready to be sent off for grading. These are the pics I took of it beforehand. So assuming that my LCS took a close look at it and tested it with a sigma machine before agreeing to take it in for grading, I'd wager that it is in fact legit.
Not too sure why you say the diameter is off, it's probably just the way it lays in my hand.

Any grading opinions on this Morgan Dollar that I've obtained recently based on these pictures?
I apologize in advance for my phone camera quality being not so good.
