Have You Seen This New Ebay Vault? How Would You Feel If They Apply It To Coins?

I just logged onto Ebay and saw their new "Ebay Vault" announcement (maybe it's not new, but first time I'm seeing it).

https://www.ebay.com/vault

Basically, they'll store your trading cards in a secure vault, so when you buy and sell them the ownership instantly transfers. You never even have to see the card! Hmm...

I feel like they might try to expand this to coins if it goes well. How would you feel about this? I personally feel like this defeats the entire purpose of collecting something, but am curious to hear what others have to say.

Thanks @Smat45! I was very surprised to see it, I was reading about seated halves and just grabbed the only one I had to see what variety it was! Very lucky.

It looks like the most recent comprable auction was $528 on an NGC AU53 this year. I think with this being the highest graded example between PCGS and NGC it may carry a little extra premium. A normal 1858 50C AU55 runs for about $400-$500 though, so not a huge difference regardless.

I want to cross it over to PCGS though as I prefer them. Hopefully they'll agree with the grade, otherwise I'll keep it NGC and have them reholder it with the variety attribute.

Hi all!

I'm excited to find out that my 1858 seated half dollar may be the DDO variety, WB-102!

Before I get too excited though I wanted to consult you all. What are your thoughts? It looks to match the doubling I'm seeing listed on NGC's site here:

https://www.ngccoin.com/variety-plu...s-1839-1891/

Sorry for some of the pic quality, he case is a little scratchy. I'd be happy to retake any if needed!

@jacrispies Wow, thank you so much! Spot on attribution, and thank you for breaking it down so I know what to look for.

I never would have known you can use the edges of the banner instead of the T-I alignment. I thought it was the placement of the letters in the banner, not the banner itself, that would be aligned differently. I will keep that in mind going forward.

This also explains the top of the "0" in "50 C." missing. I wasn't sure if it was just unique post-mint wear on this specific coin or an attribute of a die variety, now I know it is the latter.

These seem much more difficult to attribute than Morgan VAMs, but as you said it's probably just a matter of practice. I've stared at a lot more Morgan dollars!

For reference, this is how I determined the T-I alignment. Very hard to judge the side of the "I" though.

Hi everyone!

I'm not very familiar with bust halves and am having trouble attributing the variety to this one.

Unfortunately the "I" in PLURIBUS is fairly worn down, making it hard to judge the T-I alignment. I'm fairly certain it is "Left side of T right side of I in line" as shown on this page:

http://maibockaddict.com/1832-cappe...nments.shtml

This would narrow it down to O-103, 106, 108, 116, 119, or 120. However I could be wrong on this!

Perhaps this coin is too worn in general to accurately attribute anything, but I thought I'd ask here and see what the pros have to say. I can provide more up close pics of anything specific if needed!

Information On 1876-S DDO Type 2//2 Trade Dollar?

Hi everyone, Happy Friday!

I recently bought my first trade dollar, an 1876-S DDO Type 2//2 graded AU53 by NGC.

It's a beautiful coin with even, natural looking wear and toning with a slight circulation cameo. I love it! It's exactly what I was looking for for my first trade dollar. I love that it is minted 100 years after the signing of the declaration of independence, and that the mint is San Fransisco, where many trade dollars were shipped to China from.

My coin comes labeled as the DDO VP-002 variety, and I'm having trouble finding much information about it.

I see a lot sources talk about the rarity of the 76-S DDO, however I feel like they are referring to the FS-001 DDO, which seems to have more prevalent doubling and is listed as VP-001 by NGC here:

https://www.ngccoin.uk/variety-plus...1885/?page=1

1. Can anybody tell me about the rarity of the VP-002 I have? I see that in general type 2//2 is a bit scarcer, but I can't find much information about the VP-002 specifically.

2. Would PCGS recognize this as DDO (PCGS# 97043) if I was to try and do a crossover? Or would they just list it as a type 2//2 (PCGS# 40116)?

Any information or points in the right direction would be great! Thanks in advance all :)

Alex

Great photos!

Because the steps are still in it, I'd wager it's two thin die cracks running next to each other. I'll let someone with more experience chime in though.

Too hard to see from the photos I'm afraid. Judging by the condition of the penny I would say it's just damage though.

Awesome! So impressive to see them all together.

I think you may have a little spelling error in "Great Smoky Mountains" though!

Here are some more pictures, wish they could be better. As Tanman2001 said there are definitely north-south polishing lines that look much more traditional as well. The top picture captures those a bit better than the trueviews.

Coop, I hear you that they look like scratches, especially due to the chaotic nature of them. I am certain though that they are raised, and the straight PCGS grade further confirms it for me.

The larger line in the field just to the bottom right of the mint mark is very interesting. It seems to be a continuation of "scratch" marks coming from the device. I wonder why there is a gap between it and the device though.
