The custom text was a long shot, even though I thought they might like another line item for the tab.

I'm surprized the mintage numers aren't already part of the grading information

Am I in the minority when it comes to the way companies format the labels?

I like just the basic info (nomenclature and grade) on a basic label like the example of the 1995-P I posted above

But do most collectors like a lot of info on the label to add context to the origins of the coin?

I decided if I can get the basic info on the coin label I will add a printed "check list" to the inside of the lid for any special attribute the coin has and the total mintage

Such as "First West Point Proof Silver Eagle" and "Total Mintage - 30,000"

Set it up as a table that corresponds to slab location

So I sent NGC a message via Facebook because their web site contact form isn't working

I basically asked about reholder-ing

I wanted to know if was possible to get same basic label information for all of the coins I send in for reholder-ing

And if possible to add a "Total Mintage - XXX,XXX" line

This was part of their response

"we do not offer custom formatting for coins submitted to us, as we need to keep the same standard formatting across submissions we receive."

One thing I have realized is that neither PCGS nor NGC are anywhere close to being consistent with how they format the text on their labels

Any given line could be all caps or sometimes they capitalize the first letter of each word and sometime the use sentence case

Sometimes the same line is bold and sometimes it's not

I have seen the same line 7 different ways depending on the coin

I'm surprised they don't add italic words into the mix

Plus some coins like the 2021 Delaware Crossing Quarter have up to 6 lines of text

All I want is the coin nomenclature, grade and registration number on the standard brown label

Something like this

I decided it might be best to call and after talking with a rep she has confirmed that what I want "might" be possible

I got a bad feeling about this

Thanks, I bought the actual set from a local shop for less than $100 but, as I said, I put it into my binder

Since I decided to do a slab collection I wanted a couple of the RP Presidential dollars and considered sending my Bush and Ike to get them graded

This works out better :)

I already have the set in a my CAPS Binder but I wanted the PF 69 RP Dollar for the Slab Collection I started

I'll figure out something to do with the silver medal

That cuddled up to Another Country and Assisted in making replicas of the Morgan and Peace dollars of 2022..

How did those 2022 sets work out ?

If eBay is any indication, they are doing pretty good actually

I bought his set as a curiosity, the back story seemed legit

US Mint didn't make the RP Peace and Morgan dollars because of the Covid-19 related silver shortage

So the CSN got Fiji to make them

These still sell for outrageous prices on eBay but I got my set from a local dealer for at a great price

With a total mintage of just 16,795 why isn't this set or at least the coins worth a lot more than they sell for?

I'm sure you can request the Reverse to show on the face of the slab, but in the case of a slab why does that matter?

Most of the time you are handling them

I'm hoping that NGC will do a custom text format for all of the coins I send in to be reholder(ed)

I would love the have a line for the mintage

Here is an example of the format I would like for the entire set

FIRST WEST POINT RP CENT
2019 W 1C
REVERSE PF 69 RD
MINTAGE 412,708
6019342-097

One thing that sets my OCD off is that they put the Lincoln Shield cents with the shield facing the front.

That bugs me too

Speaking of Lincoln cents, I want to get a 2019-W RP for the box

I already have one in my CAPS Binder but I also wanted a graded slab but I have mixed feelings about the copper clad zinc pennies

Have you noticed any issues with your graded zinc pennies?

I joined NGC and started to do some "browsing"

I selected the Free membership since I'm just starting this collection but next January I'll upgrade to Premium for $159 since you get a $150 credit for doing that

They have a service known as "reholders"

I guess that is the same as reslabing?

For $15 NGC will replace the slab and the label, with the style and information format that you prefer, which seems like a decent deal

Apparently they do not re-grade the coin as long as there is no obvious change to the original grade

This means I can looks for deals on some of the more expensive cons that I want that have slab related issues

I already started last night and in honor of you Buck, I went with a PF69 Cameo 1971-S Ike which I got for $30 and I also found a 2020-W Reverse Proof Nickel

My plan is to spend about a hundred dollars per month getting the less expensive coins before I move up to the wallet busters such as the 1995-W or 2019-S ERP ASEs

It's not going to be a large collection since it will be mostly unique or rare coins and will probably fit in an NGC 20 slab box but you never know

You're better off sticking with a 69 that looks flawless to the naked eye.

I thought a lot about this tonight at work and decided to go with PF-69 because there are a few coins that I want that are ridiculous when graded 70

I have considered starting a collection of graded coins but every time I do something always sets of my OCD and then I put it on the back burner

This topic is for discussing everything about the graded slab process that drives you crazy except for the coins

The "Buy the slab for the coin, not for the label" comments are not necessary

I already have 2 sets of coins that are not in slabs, and some of which were jail broke from slabs, so this topic is just for people to rant about the inconsistencies in the process that bugs them

My Ideal Collection would be comprised of about 20 of my favorite or special coins graded as NGC PF-70s with the Standard Brown Label

But every time I start shopping, certain "aspects" of the grading process start to set off my OCD

Here are a few examples of things the bug me

1 - They would all have to be from the same company - probably NGC

2 - Most of the coins I want a pretty current so finding 70s is pretty easy until I go looking for a 1976 Ike Proof, then the best I can find is a 69

3 - Incorrectly "clocked" coins - You find the perfect graded coin with the right label from the right company but the coin isn't clocked right

5 - The PF and PR thing doesn't really bug me but WHY does that issue exist?

6 - NGC Label inconsistencies - Scales - Pictures - most are brown but then you get Red or Blue every once in a while

7 - You find the perfect graded coin with the right label from the right company but the holder is all scratched up

That's about all I can think of for now but I'm sure some of you will post your pet peeves and that will give me more to be tortured by if I go forward with this collection

Thanks for the info but I guess I need to clalrify my question

Does anyone know why the US mint doesn't sell tubes and individual monster box to the public?

It seems like an missed oppertunity for an addtional revenue stream

I would easily buy a tube of 20 every year from the mint if I could

I would also consider buying a monster box or 2 when the silver market is depressed

Just seems odd that they don't mind creating the secondary market for these

I think these privy marked ASEs are to coin collecting what the C8 was to Corvette

The introduction of the mid-engine concept was distasteful to many hard core Corvette enthusiasts but it helped attract a new type of buyer

These privy marks and their association with gaming companies seem like a way to attract people that wouldn't otherwise collect coins

Gamers are a large sector prone to addictive behavior and it could rapidly expand the coin collection universe

However, the problem with the rapid expansion of any hobby is that people exploit uneducated people

The Star privy is a good example

From what I read, they sold for a lot more than their current market value when they were first introduced

I attribute this to FOMO

This new Eagle privy seems to be getting the same attention, people are paying very exorbitant pre-sale prices to get one

I got booted of an ASE Facebook group I was going to post a topic asking why everyone was in such a hurry to get one when they would be a lot cheaper in a couple months

I guess the sellers that run the group didn't want people questioning their pre-sale prices

I have a bad feeling that these privy marks are going to catch on in the short term which will be good for US Mint sales

But in the long term it may devalue the linage making bad for collectors and resellers

The mint has a DC license and I would not be surprised if they do DC inspired privy marks in the years to come

Interesting read

I have the coin and it doesn't seem cluttered and when I bought it, I actually thought the 38th anniversary tie in was very clever and unconventionally cool

However, I thought the solider was a Marine, since they are famous for multiple mountain operations

But back to the OP

I have 64 commemorative dollars and to me the 2001 U.S. Capitol Visitor Center Dollar is the ugliest

The reverse is ok and that is the side I see when I look through my binder

Do these "coins" only have one side?

Lucky for me they have 2 and the reverse of this one will be what you see first

@Boba Debt: Exactly what is it about the coin's then-and-now theme that you don't like?

The composition sucks

The awkward placement of the old build over the new building

The large blank areas

IMO, just changing the order of the placement look better to me

I did this in about 5 minutes with images clipped from the net
