Hey all,
Looking for outside feedback and if this is damage or something that happened at the mint. It looks like it's melted but I weighed it and included a picture and it shows it weighs a normal 3.1 grams, so unsure what to make of it.

Hey all,
So recently I bought a lot of wheat pennies from an estate sale and time to time I get a chance to open the rolls and look what's inside (usually when the kids and wife are in bed, so rarely lol).
So usually it's nothing special in these rolls. Got some beautiful blue/purple/rainbow toned cents and so far, this penny got my attention because the date looks so off.
It kinda looks like the number 8 is melting off the penny. Is this something anyone has seen or would know anything about?
Thanks all and looking forward to any insight.

Hey all.
Last week I feel I got lucky and bought 58 rolls of pennies from an estate sale for about 10% of the price eBay sellers would charge lol. Finally cracked them open just now.
Now I'm new to coin collecting and have quite a handful of wheats. However, they are all either brown, black or a nice red color. These cents have all the above, but I'm seeing some that are blueish/purplish in color. I do apologize as the pic isn't the best, but I tried to get a lot of them in the same pic so the quality kind of lacks.
But what I'm wondering is this — are wheat pennies, or maybe pre 1982 pennies, able to tone naturally like this? Or is this artificial like from cleaning? Thanks in advance

Thank you for the input so far. So to clarify then for less wasted time on my end — the way the nose looks extended like FDR has been telling a lie, and the chin outline, and essentially all around the head, is caused by VLDS? |
