200? Penny, Date Is Very Faint, Not Sure If Rim Is PMD Or Error

Greetings and happy late new year to you all!

I've been going through a few boxes of pennies to start my year off, and eventually have came across this weird one tonight. I have no idea what is happening here.

I hope the pics can show what I'm talking about. I tried to get a few close up because you can see that, whatever type of damage/error this is, you can tell that the lettering on the back is very faint on the raised metal bit, especially on the United States and One Cent on the back. Anyways, can't wait to see what everyone has to say, and fingers crossed not PMD

Thanks everyone! Yeah I almost put it in my return to bank pile. I caught that spot at the last second.

In regards to the green spot, what should I do to preserve the coin?

Is there any sort of premium/collectibility to this coin or are these somewhat more common than I'm thinking? I've searched at least 15 boxes of Pennie's and this is the first time I've seen on like this.

Hey all,

Looking for outside feedback and if this is damage or something that happened at the mint. It looks like it's melted but I weighed it and included a picture and it shows it weighs a normal 3.1 grams, so unsure what to make of it.

Hello all,

I found this penny that I believe is a DDO. Per coppercoins.com, it looks like it matches 2011P-1DO-004 but would like some outside feedback. If it is, it may be my first doubled die found in the wild! Wish the coin was in better shape though.

Hey all

So I'm not sure if this is a doubled die, Machine doubling, or DDD. It's curious to me and I would like some outside opinion on what this could be. But around the lettering and especially around the picture, it appears there is doubling.

Thoughts?

1994 D Penny - Dome Shaped, Possible Doubling On Liberty

Hey all

So a few things here about this penny. It is domed and doesn't appear to have any damage to cause it so I'm wondering if anyone has an idea what happened here. I tried to capture the dome but the best thing to show was putting Lincoln face down and showing how it seems the middle is touching the table, as well as putting it in a coin flip, the plastic is being forced up.

Also, and I'm terrible at identifying doubling, but on Liberty, it appears there might be doubling on the letter Y? And what's weird is there is like a ghost like image of the word liberty to the left. Also seems like Lincoln's torso was shifted up.

Anywho, hoping anyone can provide some clarification and hopefully that I didn't spend 10 minutes staring at a damaged good. Even then, the toning and ghost like face was neat to look at either way. Thanks all.

Hey all

Not sure if this is an error or if it is PMD, but I have this quarter that isn't completely brown/orange and there are vertical stripes that appear parallel with each other. It doesn't appear to be toning so I'm not sure what the issue is here and hoping you guys can educate me on this.

I took photos out of the light and in the light with a couple of close up shots.

Thanks again for any assistance!

Finally, I found a true error/flaw!

And @John1, for sure. I've read up on acetone and seen a few videos on how to do it. I'm just a bit apprehensive as I don't want to accidentally damage the coin somehow.

Greetings -

I hope this isn't a problem but I'm uploading two cents, same year and mint, here as I've finally been going through quite a collection I've accumulated. Also, I've been making a habit of putting coins I think are very nice or with possible errors in coin flips to keep track of them, so hope the pics aren't too terrible quality.

Anyways, here are two 1944 D pennies that I think have lamination errors but would like some outside input.

Thank you for your time.

I once again am here to ask a question.

I found this penny a week or so ago and am hoping someone can provide a detailed observation of what is going on here. It looks to me like a rat tail is coming down from the last 9, is raised and seems like part of the coin. Definitely not a scratch.

Cheers, and hope the photos are good. Still terrible with taking pics of the penny

Hey all,

So recently I bought a lot of wheat pennies from an estate sale and time to time I get a chance to open the rolls and look what's inside (usually when the kids and wife are in bed, so rarely lol).

So usually it's nothing special in these rolls. Got some beautiful blue/purple/rainbow toned cents and so far, this penny got my attention because the date looks so off.

It kinda looks like the number 8 is melting off the penny. Is this something anyone has seen or would know anything about?

Thanks all and looking forward to any insight.

Interesting. I think I'll hold onto it as it's basically perfect toning on both sides and I don't see something like it often. Thank you for the quick feedback!

Hello, I found this quarter today while going through my laundry coin rolls (found my first silver quarter as well!) and noticed this quarter has a copper like color. Is this considered an error or is this from something else? I took a picture of a standard quarter next to it for comparison. I haven't seen one like this before.

Thank you for any insight.

Hey all.

Last week I feel I got lucky and bought 58 rolls of pennies from an estate sale for about 10% of the price eBay sellers would charge lol. Finally cracked them open just now.

Now I'm new to coin collecting and have quite a handful of wheats. However, they are all either brown, black or a nice red color. These cents have all the above, but I'm seeing some that are blueish/purplish in color. I do apologize as the pic isn't the best, but I tried to get a lot of them in the same pic so the quality kind of lacks.

But what I'm wondering is this — are wheat pennies, or maybe pre 1982 pennies, able to tone naturally like this? Or is this artificial like from cleaning? Thanks in advance

Thank you for the input so far. So to clarify then for less wasted time on my end — the way the nose looks extended like FDR has been telling a lie, and the chin outline, and essentially all around the head, is caused by VLDS?

Hello all, I'm here with something strange.

I was looking through some dimes and came across this weird specimen. I don't like to assume what this is as I'm 0/3 on possible errors lol.

Hoping anyone can provide some expertise. Thanks and much appreciated.
